A few to consider:

9200 S Western Evergreen Park, IL 10% - 81% 44 minutes 150 EA
4205 Commerce Dr. Lafayette, IN 28-97% 57 minutes 150 EA about 40 of that to 80%
They have 350 chargers, also. I was at a 150

Shell Recharge 11989 Hickman Rd Urbandale, IA 36-100 1hr 12. also about 40 minutes to 80%
They might be using newer ones if they were 150 and 350 stickered at a shell recharge. In California all the new ones are 150Amp, which isn't what the 150 stands for that you saw. 150kW is much different than amps.

Thanks for providing those locations. I'll take a look and see if I can find anything on them. Shell makes it difficult to get specs online.

Iowa was Shell

Indiana and IL are Electrify America. The Indiana ones are newer and clearly marked 150 or 350. No sticker over another. They all work, and I saw several used before / while / after me.

Okay, so I think you're a bit confused. I'm not discussing EA at all in my post that you quoted. EA stations are well capable of charging the MME at it's full potential. There's no disputing that one bit.

Shell Recharge stations however are different. The location you provided is very interesting and I've never seen a station do what they did there, but then again I'm a west-coaster and here they do it differently.

That Shell Recharge station at 11989 Hickman is actually provided by MidAmerican Power Company, but the transaction is processed through Shell. Additionally, it's a BTC power unit which can be capable of delivering full charge to the MME, but the shell ones normally aren't. I've never seen a co-op station in California. I still don't think you got a max potential charge from that station. 40-80% shouldn't take 40 minutes. That's more like a 20 minute charge. That would mean that it's probably a 150A station and you charged at a much slower rate, which is what I said originally when you quoted me.

Okay. Follow up.

To all posters indicating operator error you were 100% correct.

I pulled up to an EA charger outside of Portland Maine, plugged in and just started charging. No fee. No other action required on my part. I was already at 73%, so my charge rate was slower but it was fine. I was in no hurry (was only there for 10 minutes). Had a lovely conversation with owners of a Rivian, Ioniq 5 and a CX 40 Recharge. Ironically, they were having issues with one of the 350 kW chargers (the Volvo owner called EA).

It is obviously hit or miss with CCS chargers.

Did 5 more EA charges over the weekend thru California between Reno/Yosemite/LA/Vegas. All perfect, 1st attempt. No issues.

And still free.
Lol, man they must be doing some big upgrades, kinda crazy they are still free

I did a couple EA charges over the weekend and no problems except a couple chargers blocked by ICE cars waiting for the tire air pump that is inconveniently placed next to the chargers. It didn't cause any delay, but I had to use a 350 kW one because the 150 kW one was blocked. Luckily no 350 kW cars showed up and gave me the evil eye.

Yep. Seems dumb to me to make the whole network free for weeks, losing revenue we want them to use on expansion and maintenance. But oh well.

Maybe the "upgrages" have something to do with payment processing, like cell connectivity?

This is certainly way beyond just a "we're sorry about the Labor Day troubles".

The app seems to not be giving live info on charger availability either. Just overall not great at the moment. Hopefully it's worth the downtime.

I'm seeing the usual Available, In Use, and Unavailable, but no idea if it's accurate vs frozen in time.

Coming Soon is still missing though.

Ah, so this is new, they changed the app so you have to have an account to see if the chargers are actually available. This is all I see, but when I click on "4 chargers" it wants me to add money and open account. Used to be able to view without an account.

When I did my charges it showed a charge cost on the pump. Do we know that we won't eventually have to pay when the pumps finally sync up with the network?

They have no connected wallet to charge. When it starts via the EA app or FordPass (with out without P&C), it uses the wallet registered in those apps. But when free like this is doesn't even connect to either account. Thus nowhere to pull money from.

About half of my sessions showed a price on the main charging screen too (the other half showed zero). But the receipt at the end always showed the credit to zero it out.

That's also why they add the step that asks if you want a receipt txt'd to a phone number, because there's no account identified to the charger. That's another way you know it's free.

My last charging session was exactly as @dbsb3233 describes above.
