Saw this tweeted out today:

At Electrify America, we’re committed to delivering a positive charging experience for every driver. As we explore strategies to reduce wait times and increase throughput across our network, we’ve launched a pilot that enforces a State of Charge (SOC) limit at select locations. Once a vehicle reaches 85% State of Charge, the charging session will automatically end, and drivers will have 10 minutes to move their vehicle before idle fees are incurred.

Inspired by our customers’ feedback, this pilot will be conducted across the stations listed below. Our team will continuously monitor station performance and customer sentiment during this pilot program and adjust as needed.

Those locations seem very explicitly targeted. Maybe high ride share locations?

I am not a fan of being limited to a % but honestly it makes sense with high congestion. I guess they could also put more then just 4 stalls in, ?.

About time. This will also help increase utilization, as in they'll be able to sell more energy in the same amount of time - assuming the same-ish number of vehicles stop by the stations. I think an alternative to this is a token increase in price per kWh as the SoC approaches 100%. I'm assuming they're doing this in areas that have relatively high charger density.

I think this is reasonable to keep up with demand in high traffic, well developes areas, especially with all the cars out there still getting free charging from EA camping out and taking up space. That said, I wouldn't want to see this where it's 200+ miles to the next charger.

California dreaming!

My state is nuts and the fast chargers infrastructure is not nearly adequate for the current needs of EVs. Just wait until the EV mandate takes effect. I don’t see how they can actually do it when reality hits…

I’m so glad I charge at home off of my solar panels and power wall…

This is a start, but this isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. There are times when people traveling will need to push it higher, and they should be allowed to. I believe Tesla pops up with a message when a station is impacted, but the driver can choose to charge higher. Obviously, in CA, where we have chargers all over the place, it's less of a concern, but in more rural areas, this one-size-fits-all approach could be problematic.

Why would anyone use EA after the Tesla adapters show up?

Cost. SOMETIMES Tesla is more. Sometimes they are A LOT MORE. Sometimes they are comparable, or even less.

When I checked, they seemed far cheaper than any EA and EVGo in CA. You are right; I did see some outside of CA where they were more expensive. Sometimes the frustration that I have experienced at EA would make it worth it, and I am CHEAP

There doesn't seem to be a perfect solution, but I wouldn't mind seeing this implemented in high congestion areas. I travel from Maryland to the Poconos in PA about five times every summer, and the EA stations on the way are ALWAYS full of locals charging up to 100%.

I was lucky enough to be one of the first to see the NACS adapter reservation bank open, so I got mine in the first wave. That's definitely been a game changer.

So, based on this statement, according to you, we should never see a Tesla using an EA charging station... yet we do.

Where did you get that from??!?!?! If a Tesla wants to charge at an EA station, good luck. Hopefully, their experience is better than mine

this would work well with an App that would notify you when you hit that 85% so you have 10 minutes to check out of the store to go move your car before the fine starts.
