In 4 results! Hope some small section of the windshield ends up working. Many of us in VA use the Flex transponders to be able to turn on HOV mode. I wonder if TransUrban has addressed this since that private company has taken over operation of all our Express lanes from the DC metro down to VA Beach. ? Will check their site later.
FYI, I tried calling Ford. They had no idea and said that all they could do was read the owner's manual. There's nothing in the owner's manual about where to mount an EZ-Pass. As has been mentioned, in VA we have an EZ-Pass Flex that allows you to switch between HOV and non-HOV modes when traveling on certain roads. Obviously, you can't do that if you have a pass mounted on your license plate. The Ford Customer service people said to call the dealer because they would know better. Really??? So I tried that. My car was the first an only Mach-E delivered from this dealership. They have no clue. But, they are going to research the matter and get back to me. If/when I hear anything concrete, I'll let you know.
As for the hold the pass out the window solution, keep in mind that many of the tolls here are read at speed and in relatively random places along the road (between exits) - not at toll booths plazas. I'm not holding my hand out the window every few miles while traveling 65-70 mph when the temps are below freezing and when it's raining, etc.

I'm sure that there is a solution. We are just the first ones with Mach-Es and it's new.

If your car's license plate is added to your account, they will just bill you the regular toll without any extras. That's what we've been doing for a long time when we didn't have the transponder... the license plates are registered.
Not if it's a distance traveled based toll. At least at the time it happened to me, if it can't determine how far you've traveled, it charges you $10. What should've been $1 to $2 tolls were $10 a pop with my broken transponder. Article I linked mentions this is the problem. Single tolls are not the problem.

Hmm, well the article is also two years old now. Maybe they've fixed it? I've traveled all around the state and never noticed those $10 flat rate fees. (Only sometimes without the transponder).

I hope they fixed (stopped doing) it. Seems like a deceitful money-making scheme...

My guess is it has to do with the IR windshield. In Illinois, we have a list of vehicles, usually high-end, with IR windshields and where we have to get a front plate mounted IPass transmitter. I mounted mine on the glass roof right behind the visor for now to see if I have any issues.

Good idea, I never thought of that. But doesn't the roof glass have infrared coating as well?

so we don't think there is an area of the windshield that doesn't have the IRR coating? It seems like most manufacturers with these windshields do that...
Its not in the manual at least - if they had a specific place I am assuming they would point it out.

Somehow they should link a plate to an account like the transponder.
I don't know how it works elsewhere, but here in the garden state you enter the pertinent car information (make/model/license plate) and the transponder ID they gave you on your account. As mentioned, it is a whole lot easier and cheaper to bill by transponder ID, especially since they take a deposit FIRST and then deduct from that as you go through tolls.

As for those of you not living where there are tolls, that luxury will come to an end soon. Without massive tax revenue on fuel from ICEs, expect more and more highways to have high speed tolls.

Exactly. Well said, and thank you. I hope to be able and contribute to testing of my own in about a month! Actually just did a drive today that involved the toll rd (267) to 495 Express Lanes to 95 south Express Lanes, with the later two being in HOV3+ mode.

All of my Fords have had those black dotted areas on the windshield. And none of them have had special coatings. It would be great if thats what it is, but I'm leaning towards its not.
