California law says that if a vehicle comes with two plates, then a front plate has to be mounted (in addition to the back plate. Do those living in California mount a front plate?

Thanks in advance

Just use this https://licenseplatewrap.com/

Also it depends in where you live as to how strict law enforcement are about you having a front plate, drive sensible and they wont bother you over it, other places they just see the $$$ and will pull you over and give you a fix it ticket.

It is legal in California via a pilot program the DMV has. You still must carry the regular front plate in the car by law. ??

Front plates are required in Colorado, as well. But the vinyl wrap plates are not legal here. However, I would say that less than 50% of the Teslas around (and there are a LOT) don't have any front plates. I went with suction cup mount in the front windshield, which isn't technically legal in Colorado (the laws specify that the plate has to be mounted vertically), but should stop them from using it as an excuse to pull me over... (he says... optimistically...)

A lot of people seem to like the Sto-n-sho holders, which make it easy to remove the plate. I believe there were some issues with the original mount blocking some of the front sensors, but they've apparently worked that out. $100, or so for the mount...

Prior to completing purchase, the dealer asked me if I wanted front plate and bracket mounted or if I wanted to sign a waiver saying they told me to put it on.

I think it looks fine with it on so just had them install bracket.

LOL the front plate on my ‘71 Celica would have been illegal in CO since the mounting surface on the front bumper was pitched so that the lower edge was about an inch forward of the top edge of the front plate. That did make the front plate more legible to the average police cruiser since the car was so crazy low. ??

Thanks for the information and the pictures - My GTPE does not have the 6” of height that the wrap site says you need. But it doesn’t look like your Mach e does either“ I assume putting on worked out well / easily?

Thanks

Required in Oregon, but so many other Teslas don’t, so I don’t. I carry it in my car, just in case. Cops have better things to do in my town.

They don’t have anything better to do out here. They’ll pull you over for no front plate. Every car has one, even the couple of GT-500s I see now and then.

But Wait! There’s more! Displaying a plate other than the officially county issued license plate is a felony (even if it is accurate). I think this was to deter the coconut license plates. So no vinyl wrap plates here. Sadly.

If your are worried about showing the full 6 inches on the GTPE then the best place is to stick the licence plate wrap is to aling the top of it to the bottom of the illuminated mustang in the grill as this then gives you very close to the full 6 inches of height give or take around a 1/4 of an inch.

Im in Cali, I dont have a front plate and I’ve had the car over a year. Generally where I am, it is not something they would pull you over for. They’d pull you over for speeding and if you start sassing back, they’d add requiring a front plate on to your ticket ?
