I recently picked up a Premium AWD, ER and am loving it. However, also curious about whether the GT would be worth it or not. I have a 2023 GT ordered and it's slated to be built next week, so there's a potential for a December '22 delivery. While I'm 100% happy with the Premium I still plan to keep my GT order so I can at least go sit in it and give it a test drive to really solidify my opinion. The Premium is plenty fast, but after driving my brothers Dual motor Model 3 for a week, I kind of had it in my head that the Premium would be similar performance wise. But, heavier vehicle, larger size, and smaller motor, coupled with what I'm assuming is software limited acceleration, I feel like the Model 3 will snap your neck back with quick acceleration, while the MME will push you back in your seat and more gracefully get you up to speed. The Model 3 will be at a 100 in about the same time the MME hits mid 80's (none of this actually tested, just the "feel" I got from driving the two a few weeks apart).

All this to say, if the GT snaps my neck back upon acceleration like the Model 3, coupled with the light up pony, front facia, and interior upgrades, I MIGHT consider spending a bit more, but in reality none of that really matters when this is my commuter car / haul the kids to practices etc. So I would probably be better off just saving the money and enjoying the Premium as is....which lets face it is plenty awesome on it's own. I might have to get one of those after market light up ponies though :)
Faster than the Model 3LR and neck snapping for sure but moving to the GT has another big negative - range loss.

With the GTPE trim is quite bad. I could easily get 280 miles real-world with my Premiums but the GTPE was hitting 230 miles (maybe). My GTPE basically lived connected to a charger.

I will stick with the premium. I will get GT wheels and tires (for about 2k) and the GT decal at the front of the hood(black front end) and call it a day :)
I don't understand why you would do this? Is it that important to you that others, who are not familiar with the car by the way, think that you have a GT?

Not trying to instigate or be insulting, I'm really just curious as to your reasoning.

No, its just I like the way GT looks with the wider tires. So its totally on me

That is really good to know too. One thing I totally "overlooked" when buying an EV is that while the range of the Premium is stated to be 277 miles, that is also assuming 100% charge. Since everyone says not to charge it to 100% nightly unless you absolutely need to, I'm realizing that at 80% nightly charge I have enough to get through my day with my 60 mile round trip commute with plenty left over. However, I also then charge nightly vs every couple of days. This of course may change over time as I get used to the car, its true range, understanding the battery gauge readout better, and of course not giving friends test rides with lots of heavy throttle. But point is, I'm REALLY happy I have the ER battery, and range loss is more apparent to me now, knowing what I now know. Of course, I added wider wheels/tires which hurt me a little, but that was worth the loss to me.

I'm with ya there. I personally think the stock Premium wheels aren't terrible looking. However, they are WAY to narrow. Plus, I just really like to put aftermarket wheels on all my cars to make them "mine." Here's my MME getting new shoes the day after I bought it. That wider stance is just a must for the looks of this car IMO. Cost was about $2700 for wheels and tires, which of course could've gotten me closer to a GT, although for me, if that was the route I was going to go, I'd have to get to the GTPE trim as those wheels are fire, but the GT wheels are just not for me.

Cool looking. Now that's what I am talking about ?. I have few questions though,
- how was the ride comfort(bumps, stiffness)
- how is braking
- apparently EV tires are different from ice cars. Are these EV rated
- how is the road noise
- did you need to change any sensors
- what did you do with the old ones

Cool looking. Now that's what I am talking about ?. I have few questions though,
- how was the ride comfort(bumps, stiffness)

So I only had 300 miles on the car before I swapped the wheels/tires but I think it a) drives better with the wider tires (less lane movement vs narrow tires) and absolutely rails the corners and feels planted.
b) I feel the car overall has a stiffer suspension. I think of it more performance tuned - whether or not that’s true - vs bouncy. Tires didn’t affect this.
c) I can’t complain about the ride at all.

- how is braking

I use 1 pedal driving so don’t touch the brakes unless I misjudged the distance (still getting used to 1PD) or need emergency braking. No negative affect here either. Performs great

- apparently EV tires are different from ice cars. Are these EV rated

They are Pirelli PZero Nero all seasons. Pretty sure same as what comes on the Teslas. I worked with my Tire shop with the knowledge it was an EV. Other than weight rating I don’t think there is a special need to address other than of course looking for low rolling resistance tires if that is what you’re after

- how is the road noise

Car is still stupid quiet

- did you need to change any sensors

They had to pull the TPMS sensors from the stock ones as they didn’t have any for this model in stock. Could’ve ordered but just had them pull them.

- what did you do with the old ones

sitting stacked in my garage for the time being. Ultimately I will sell them if I keep this car (which is most likely outcome) but still have a ‘23 GT on order, so slight chance I take delivery on that, move the custom wheels to GT and put stock wheels back on Premium before trading it in. Although again, I doubt this will happen and I keep premium and sell these.

56 outside, 85% battery, empty road and GT. Hmmm let’s test it. …. I take back my words about GT possibilities. Damn he’s fast. With this new results I realized that unpredictable behavior of the car isn’t good thing. Now I’m worried how good I know my car ?
If you’ll see on highway the GT with slow speed you should know …. it’s me. Scared to push harder the gas pedal, cause the top speed will depend on the pony mood at this moment ?

Got to ask this.
So if I buy a factory(OEM) gt wheels and tires(flower wheels or the eagle wheels), I don't need to change any sensors and I(mechanic) can just remove current wheels and install new ones and every thing just works.. ? (Tpms etc)

The signature indicates “Pirelli P Zero Nero tires 265/40/R20”. Been drooling on these pictures, got the same car and also feel the stock tires are way too skinny.

“Worry” about the decrease in range and noise, seem people complain about noise on these Pirelli’s. But they do look good!

As far as I know yes. However, you would need to have either a tool or visit a tire shop with the tool to sync the TPMS in the new wheels/tires with the cars computer.

so again I have to stress I only had the car about 24hrs and 300 miles (had to drive a ways to get it) so my experience before them are limited. However, I can say this car is still VERY VERY quiet. My father in law took a spin and he has hearing aids and struggles to hear people etc and he was like “I could totally have a conversation with people in this car, it’s so quiet!”

I have no complains and compared to my 09 Corolla I was driving before it is insanely quiet. Ride is still excellent and the stance is amazing!

Well, I think once you drive the GT in Grabber Blue....I'm pretty sure you will get it :) Just my guess...Wanna bet? Keeping your premium is smarter financially, but..... the GT is so fun! And I'm guessing you wanted fun with the Grabber Blue choice. You weren't messing around. I've never seen a Grabber Blue in the Wild.
