Since I will only use fast chargers and destination chargers when traveling, I attached the mobile charger that came with the car to my garage wall. Works fine at 240v for an overnight charge. Make sure your 14-50 outlet is flush mounted.

quick question for those who have their Mach-E.. what was the cost to have a 240v outlet installed in the garage? My electric panel is up to date and does not need to be replaced, was quoted $2k by an electrician. This seems high to me, but I have no idea. I don't have the skills to do this by myself

The 240 v. 50 amp circuit, I had installed, cost me $1,300. This is in North Central Indiana. The circuit breaker panel had room for another circuit breaker. The wires run from the panel (in a half basement) through a crawl space, under one room, to an attached garage. The price seemed high to me.
Unfortunately, the electrician was the only one who responded to my calls. At the same time, I am very satisfied with the improvements they made. They were very professional, clean, and showed up on time. Also, they had experience installing similar circuits for other EV owners.

Which charger do you like best? I'm having a 240 installed* I haven't had the time to do any research so I came to the experts!
Ford supplied 240v works fine giving us 15 to 20 miles an hour. I installed 50 amp circuit 6 GA wire 45 ft to garage. Good luck

I have a 240v/50a line installed just below the main panel. Very short run (lucky me). $250 total. The EVSE that came with our Tesla M3 and the one coming with our Mach-e will reach each car. If your main panel can handle a 50a circuit and the NEMA 14-50 receptacle can be close to the panel you're in luck.

A couple things will really impact the price.

Distance, more wire means more money just got supplies and more work

Accessibility, how hard will it be for the electrician to run the wire and possibility conduit.

Just had a 240v line installed last week. Cost=$700. 50 amp installation for a 40 amp charger.

The electrician ran a 3 foot conduit line from the main circuit panel (which is outside) then drilled a hole into the garage and placed a nema 14-50 plug in the garage.

I used a licensed contractor.

Secondly, I choose a charger with a 25 foot cable. That gave me the flexibility to have the 240v line receptacle close to the main power panel reducing the cost by the electrician.

Good luck.

About 600 for me … panel was ready.. work involved was the wiring, labor , parts, and about 20 ft was the length of conduit/wiring. This is from Nov 2020 when I got it installed ahead of my Feb 21 delivery. Prices may have gone up now.

How far from the panel to where you want the charger outlet? If it's close, that's way too high. Get multiple quotes. Ask to get a 14-50 outlet for a welder installed in your garage and how far from your panel. If you mention electric car, they might charge premium price.

Needing some advice. The 14-50 plug is in my garage, but I have to park outside the garage (long story). Currently I’m using the mobile EVSE, with the cable going under the garage door when it’s closed which, up to this point, works fine. However, I’d like to possibly get a different EVSE, and leave that travel unit as a reserve. Can anyone recommend a unit that has a cable similar in diameter to the travel units cable? I don’t need smart functionality, just a decently long, not too bulky cable

I plan to use a ChargePoint unit. Does anybody know of a good electrician that has knowledge about these things? The Chargepoint website recommends Qmerit, but all they are in a clearing house for the supposed qualifier installer. Not sure how good they are though.

I live in Riverview Fl, south of Tampa

Thanks in advance

Id rather have a thicker cable than the FMC one of it's going to get the garage kinking it. Not that it probably matters but.

Definitely Grizzl E is a no go. That cable is thick!

I am thinking about getting a Chargepoint unit. My NEMA 14-50 plugin in a spot that would make the hard to position. So, I can get an electrician to relocate my NEMA 14-50 plug or get a NEMA 14-50 extension cord, that can handle 50 amps. They come in many lengths, but I would choose between 10-15 feet.

Any opinion on which was to go. The cord itself is about $80, electrician to relocate who knows.

I had an electrician install a Nema 14-50 outlet in the garage and am using the Ford supplied charger that came with the car. It works just fine and even if I pull into the garage at 10 PM with a 20% charge the car is back up to 80% by 4 or 5 AM the next morning.

I have your exact same set up in our garage. Quick question... Is it safe to just leave the original Ford charger plugged in 24/7, receiving electricity from the 240V oultet even if the charger is not connected to the vehicle?

Mine has been plugged in and on since February with no problems. I have only had one or two times there was an error/fault with the charger and in those cases I just shut off the breaker switch for the charger for a minute and flipped it back on.
