Currently (or last I heard anyway), tesla Destination Chargers are free to the guests of the host establishment. There were rumblings though that they were going to begin to start charging for these. I haven't seen anything on that -- yet. I also don't own a Tesla so I'm not exactly watching for further developments.

These will be new generation destination chargers with Wi-Fi built in. The current generation does not have any internet / network connectivity. Additional information about these:

Tom did a review video on Tesla adapters including the new TeslaTap Mini.

Clearly Tom feels that the TeslaTap 50 is sufficient for the Mach E as it is sufficiently rated for 48A chargers. His feeling is there is no need for the 80 in vehicles out there today.

This also means the Tesla Tap Mini-60 hits the sweet spot for the Mach E if you want to pay $60 more for the smaller size.

Yeah, the TeslaTap website seems to be waffling on the ratings. This is what it said a few days ago:

TeslaTap 50 compatible with ALL US built EV’s with a charge rate up to 50 AMPS @ 250VAC (12.5 KW) for up to 3 hours and 40 AMPS @ 250V (10 Kw) Continuously. To the best of our knowledge TeslaTap is the only adapter that gives you the continuous use rating.

But this is what is says now:

TeslaTap 50 compatible with ALL US built EV’s with a charge rate up to 50 AMPS @ 250VAC (12.5 KW).

Either way, I'm sure you'll be fine for occasional use.

Think of it as a "Presentation Case." You'll be expected to have an entire elaborate and ritualized ceremony around charging your Mach-e with it when it comes out of that case. ;)

"my car ended up in the lake but the faux-Pelican case for the TeslaTap kept that dry and happy"

After taking the first sip of Tesla electricity, you have to rotate the adapter, wipe the rim, and re-present it to the Tesla charger.

Are Jdapter or TeslaTap certified as prophylactics?

Can either of them aid in the prevention of Self-driven Tesla Delusions?

I can report that there is plenty of room for your TeslaTap to nestle in the compartment with the Ford Mobile charger.

Thank you, Mark. That answers that question. I shall now proceed to move mine from a garage shelf to the spot on the garage floor where it'd be if I actually had my Mach-e. Along with all my other Mach-e things. ;)

Hey guys I'm really confused about the information in that thread and how things are supposed to work with charging - I made a new thread and was told to go look into an old thread (which I did but it's not helping me) and I'm still confused.

sooo according to Ford (https://www.ford.com/suvs/mach-e/):
The Mach-E (with AC charging) goes up to 10.5kW with 48 Amps capability.

Why do people say to buy the 50 Amps, 60 Amps, or 80 Amps Tesla taps? It seems it's a waste of money because the Mach-E won't benefit from anything above 48 Amps.

Also won't I risk frying my car if I go higher than 48 Amps? I am really worried about charging "outside" of the intended Ford use case.

I remember that Apple was always saying to stay clear of bootleg non-Apple cables when charging their phones and that it would damage the battery. Wouldn't that be the case here?

Can someone explain me this?

As I see it (I have not had each of these in my hands to verify this), the TeslaTaps each have a different maximum Ampere rating, likely based on the size and construction of the conductors within. The units with higher Ampere rating will have larger conductors (and possibly different materials), which will not heat up as quickly as the units with the smaller rating. I believe *that* is the secret of why you should get one with a higher rating than you need. It will take the larger one longer to heat up than the smaller one. So if you are going to charge for a very short time, the smaller rating would be OK, but if you were to use it overnight, you ould need the one with the larger rating. Since they are passive, none of them can "fry" your car. Again, I haven't had one in my hands, so I am just guessing here based on decades of experience in the tech sector.
