The details in the IPC though would need much more hardware to do. Right now it only only there are objects around the sides of the vehicle and not really what the objects are. So it would need more cameras like Teslas have to really get it right.
I think you’re probably right that more cams would be necessary to do a graphical depiction as good as Tesla. But if the current sideview mirror cams are sufficient to suggest lane changes, they should be sufficient to graphically depict a car (at least a clip art car) moving forward or back in the blind spots.

I would think that they could show a camera view when you put on turn signal in the Sync 4 screen. It's an easy add and would keep people subscribed.

My guess is that these are just pretty pictures and not interactive.

And the SYNC screen is still sporting a clip art house to open the app tray.?
I thought the displays were dynamic? I seem to recall that ford is using a decent graphics processor to drive them and we’re quite proud of the graphics?

I’m pretty sure that lane change is authorized by BLIS (and possibly, but doubtfully, the ultrasonic parking sensors). Those mirror cameras are only used to provide the in-car parking displays.

Please turn on your parking display, then have a friend walk around your vehicle at different distances. Those cameras are useless for making driving decisions - particularly at speed, given their refresh rate.

If it's using BLIS, SUMA (whenever they actually get the mirrors made) might be on the hook in a way they don't know yet.

The fact that Ford hasn't changed this yet boggles my mind. I've complained directly to people there and was told:

"Hi Todd, Thank you for voicing your concerns. Your feedback will help continuously improve our products. I’ve forwarded your note to the right team and I’ll circle back." blah blah blah

There's been a number of studies conducted on vehicle purchases. Technology and it's design is ranked very high among consumers in the under 50 age bracket. Many studies cite the fatigue and frustration from these buyers in regards to poor technological advances. Legacy auto makers struggle with these things for sure, but changing icons should be easy. Heck, go back to the original icons!

Yeah like @Jimrpa said, it doesn't use the cameras but the BLS system. So mainly the ultrasonic sensors for all of that to work. I'm suspecting that they will come out with new hardware version for BC 2 which will be more like Tesla. For BC we are definitely early adopters, but I like the stability of BC over Autopilot.

If automated lane changes on BC were to happen, I hope an alert is generated beforehand to allow overriding the lane change, if the driver perceives a potentially dangerous situation. Of course, they could make it behave ultra-conservatively, which would defeat the purpose in busy traffic.

I’m not sure what that means since BC only works on certified, limited access, divided highways. It wouldn’t do an exit, for example.
Im trying to say that hopefully if you have a destination set in your navigation, then the car will be able to follow it. This includes taking exits as it would be newly added functionality with the newer BC versions.

The ultrasonic sensors are short range and just used for parking. BLIS uses radar in the rear quarter panels.

Ford took part of Argo Al in 2022 which was "working" to develop autonoums driving for fleet vehicles. Assume BC2(?) Will be different than Tesla.

Considering BC 1.x is using EyeQ4 from 2018, I sure hope they'll move on to a newer platform for BC2. MobileEye already has two newer platforms released since EyeQ4.

Hardware capabilities (if you can trust wikipedia) for what we have are:
  • 3D Vehicles,
  • Next-Gen Lane Markings
  • Road Markings
  • Traffic Lights
  • Relevance of Traffic Lights
  • Next-Gen Semantic Free Space
  • Road Profile
  • General Objects
  • Hazards
  • Animals
  • Path Prediction
  • Road Edges
There could be limitations based on what sensors Ford included. There are also two hardware levels for EyeQ4. My speculation with the reasoning they gave of delaying 1.2 on 21 and 22 models is that 21 and 22 might have the mid tier hardware and 23+ might have the high tier hardware (more processing power).
