Your keypad number and the hold 7/8 and 9/0( the bottom 2 numbers, I used to use it often but now now enough to remember.)
Thats not it, it’s your key code followed by pressing the 7/8 button. Pressing the 5/6 button after opens the trunk. Pressing only 7/8 and 9/0 at same times locks the car.

I’ve seen posts of phantom trunk openings on cars with and without the kick to open feature. Mostly early on though none recently. You can set a height limit to avoid hitting anything above the trunk but if your garage is small it may still hit the garage door if it’s closed. I have ‘21 premium with the kick to open and only twice in almost 5 years has it happned. Once in the garage (luckily didn’t hit anything) and once just walking up to my parked car. I use the feature often especially with hands full coming back to the car.

The power trunk has been my biggest problem from the get-go. It will usually open when I push the button on the trunk, but not always. Sometimes I have to unlock the car. Once opened, it usually will not close when I push the button. It will give me three beeps or none at all. Sometimes it closes fine. Sometimes it closes and then latches and then opens again on its own. I had the dealer look at it once and they reprogrammed it, but it didn’t help.

Of course, the second biggest problem are the finicky door locks.

It’s a shame these small areas are such a big headache when the rest of the car operates perfectly.

Definitely has me thinking I need to pull further up in my garage, so the gate doesn't open into the garage door randomly.

Kick to open is supposed to only function when the fob/phone is within 1 meter of the tailgate. My KTO works 99% of the time if I have my phone on me. It never opens if I don’t.

Since cars without kick to open have had phantom openings, I’m not sure that kick to open is the culprit.

Unfortunately this is not unusual for today’s cars. We had a 2018 Lexus RX that my sister-in-law backed into. She was parked two feet in front of us and may have gotten to 3mph before she hit the front bumper. No visible damage but a couple of the plastic tabs on the bumper and one on the headlight assembly broke - $8000 total cost. Insane.

Except I was at my laundry room door and my dog was near the trunk. The car is getting a BT reflection somehow. In my cabin I have to put the key in a bag on the other end of the cabin away from the car or it keeps turning the lights on. And a random raccoon might open the trunk.

The car doesn’t do a great job of figuring out where my phone is. I have to for hump whatever door I want to open if I don’t have a fob in my pocket as well.

I think some of the fob/phone proximity functions changed when we got the update to allow the passenger to open their (locked) door before the driver opened theirs. The liftgate could certainly have been affected.

Un freaking believable I went to go take the dog for a walk and he darts underneath the garage door. Apparently he’s tail swings past the kick the open trigger for my car both the garage door and my hatch open up at exact same speed and don’t cause any damage to each other. Here’s a picture of my dog looking guilty as shit.

Being canine, how do you know your dog doesn’t do this for amusement? 😁🐩

Usually he does, but shoots out the middle and heads to the middle of the front yard. His public display of freedom. Which pisses off the golden lab across the street barking at him through the window.

The proximity changed for sure. It was working pretty well after that unlock zone change, then it kinda quit. I pulled the negative terminal when I was doing the spring and it appears to be back to 'really far away is ok' mode as I didn't move when I took the pic. Neighbors golden came over yesterday and rummages around the garage. He opened the trunk 5 times with his tail. Never once going under the car. Granted now that's lifted it's got a lot more available kick room.

$7k! Ouch! Glad your insurance covered it (aside from deductible)

Mine would close on my head if it stepped a little too far forward while reaching far into the hatch. It was overly sensitive.

I turned it off after it phantom opened in the middle of the night and put an 8 inch scratch on the center of the liftgate as it scraped on my garage door hinge. Ford Warranty comped an $800 paint job to fix that because it was a known issue they were dealing with a lot. I’d imagine this, plus chip shortages, was the main reason it was removed in later years.

My 21's hatch occasionally opened when I walked past the rear without ANYTHING like my foot going remotely under the rear of the car. I deactivated it for that reason, and don't miss it on my 25 GT.

Although I too would be angry and annoyed with the car doing things I didn’t ask (yes my hood (it doesn’t identify as a frunk) opens via number pad when not commanded)
mainly I’d feel stupid for:
A. Backing up without looking backwards to see the trunk opening.
B. Not looking at the rear camera that would be showing a view of the garage door or the sky or the ceiling,
C. The dome lights being on since a door or trunk is open.
D. The dash indicating that the trunk is open.
