New to forum and Mach-E.

Been awhile since owning/driving a Ford. My most recent vehicle that is even close was a 2018 Honda Prelude EV which I loved. Complete disclosure. Purchased a competitive automaker that purchased the Select AWD normal range from auction and sold to me. Some of what I am going to state, I may just be an idiot and hoping someone can correct/clarify:

The Good:
1. The L&F of the vehicle is quite impressive. (with a few quirks...) Refined interior and exterior of a cross over. Really roomy and able to still pick up stuff at Lowe's.
2. The drive is amazing. Really impressed with response. Handling on corners is quite good. One pedal is fantastic.
3. Impressed with the wire free Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Quick connect and reasonable synergy with the Ford native apps. (with some quirks..)
4. Perks. Appreciate the starting free KW from Ford.
5. Haven't tried it but hoping the long range navigation with charging stations is as good as I hear/read.

The Not So Good:
1. Profile customization = Logo and Radio Stations? That's it? I am missing something or do you eventually see further controls such as user: seating adjustment, side mirrors, favorite station, driving mode......etc based on selected user.
2. Range - The range I am getting is ~180 miles fully charged. I have 100 miles on the vehicle in whisper. This seems low and my biggest peev. NOTE: I am in the south (warmer) Will this improve?
3. Refinements - Some features seem rushed. The door handles are awkward at best. The screen looks like an after thought with the dash cut out. I know it is year one. Hope it gets better. Suspect power consumption related. But, surprised no rear hatch auto open (foot) and heated seats on Select.
4. Apps - How many Ford apps do I need? Ford Charging, Ford Pass anything else? Would hope for complete integration into 1 app. I have had the interface lock up briefly a few times where drop down doesn't work. Not sure if touch related or just software dev.
5. Extra - I only received 1 fob. Ford wants $520? Seems excessive.
6. Extra - I didn't receive the mounting bracket for the portable charger. Ford wants to sell a complete charger as they don't sell brackets separately. is there another source or recommendation for this?
7. Factory recall: At 2 now. Only 1 was listed. (windshield) There was another for TOD on the auto lighting but I can't find anything on this?
8. Sound - I didn't really test out the sound system when test driving. More focused on road noise. The sound system is marginal. The high and mid is good. The bass is severely lacking compared to previous gen Mustang systems.
9. Connected Built-In Navigation - A little disappointed on expiration (2025 - Thought it was longer based on reading) What is the cost after that? I am hoping assume that after that I can function with Android Auto/Apple Car Play without paying a premium?

Right now, I am still in the honeymoon phase. I do love the car. I just wish I could get better mileage, refinement, and hope Ford doesn't become a money pit for service and other...

Great forum. You have all been a huge help!

Thanks for the great write up. I really think your review makes a very compelling case for people to really consider going for the Premium model AND selecting the extended range battery. I think a lot of your concerns would gone away with the bigger battery and features that come with the premium model.

Do you know if this will improve like a car break-in period or something I may have on that is affecting? I thought 210 was min? (and was hoping for slightly better..)

Most range issued come down to colder temps and use of the heater, A/C, and of course driving conditions (over 65 mph drains it faster). I do not think "time" factor is going to make the range any better... As a matter of fact it may get a little lower as the battery degrades over the years.

All of the things that you mention can be saved to a profile.

The estimated range (Guess-O-Meter) is just a guess, and not a very good one. Just ignore it.

But, surprised no rear hatch auto open (foot) and heated seats on Select.
They had to draw the line somewhere. The Comfort/Technology Package would have added heated seats and a power hatch to the Select, but at that point, it's almost the same price as a standard range Premium.

4. Apps - How many Ford apps do I need? Ford Charging, Ford Pass anything else? Would hope for complete integration into 1 app.
Not sure what Ford Charging app you're referring to. FordPass is the only Ford app for the MME that I'm aware of.

Welcome!!

The Not So Good:
#2: range should improve as it gets warmer outside (wait until summer time to judge), the car will take some time to learn your driving style

#3: No power hatch and no heated seats included on the Select to keep the vehicle cost down not a power consumption issue.

#4: Apps- There is only 1 FordPass app. Recommend you get A Better Route Planner, PlugShare, Electrify America and depending on where you are located maybe one like ChargePoint or Blink.

#5: You can add multiple phones for Phone as a Key. I really never carry a fob except for dealer service visits.

#6: My mobile charger came with the mounting bracket already clipped to the back of it.

#8: The Select trim as a cost savings has the lower priced radio/speakers, not the higher quality/higher cost system in the Premium.

#9: Connected Navigation gets you traffic and weather updates. Android Auto/Apple Car Play will work just fine for free (without connected services).

There is a separate app for the Ford Connected Charge Station. Maybe that’s what’s being referred to? It only needed if you have the FCCS.

Not sure why so many people are complaining about lack of features on the select model. They must have bought it off the lot. It wasn’t hard to compare and see that the features I wanted required the “premium” model. For gods sake, has anyone looked at a Porsche? The base model Taycan includes very little and starts over 80k. The whole “A 45k vehicle should have come with XXx” is dumb because you can clearly see what requires a package.

And even that is just for the initial FCCS setup. Management of it is through FordPass.
It also provided some energy use stats up until last September.

ETA: maybe that was also in FP. It’s been so long since it’s worked I can’t remember.

If you would like my bracket you can have it for the cost of shipping (I'm in Colorado). I plan to keep the car a long time, and I only use the Mobile charger while traveling, so no need to mount it. PM if interested.

the guess-o-meter (GOM) range is only a guess, and largely based on ambient temp since more energy goes to heating cabin and batteries when temp outside drops. SR range will show on GOM anywhere between 170 on a cold day to 220 on a 'perfect' 70 deg f day.

What am I missing here? Even the dealer told me the phone only works to start remotely, windows.. but you need a fob to drive away. If I start remotely by app, then get in to drive, I am prompted to press start and requiring a key fob. (even though I am apparently configured correctly and I keep getting asked to backup my key)

So if the dealer told you that you need a fob to drive the car, then he told you wrong.

Have you not read the owner's manual. PaaK (Phone as a Key) is a feature of your vehicle. You setup the phone, and it functions as a key, although the reliability of this feature isn't great.

If someone is quoting you $520 for a fob, you should take that as a big red flag that they are ripping you off big time. A fob from a Ford dealer, programmed, wouldn't be that high. There are numerous threads here where people bought a fob online, and then had a dealer program it for $150 or less.

I'd suggest you read the manual, and spend some time reading online. Much of what you listed as issues is addressed in the manual.
