You're saying I can't precondition the battery if I'm using Level 1 charging? I'm just warming the cabin up?
That is correct and I believe you are also draining the HVB as the L1 supply does not cover the entire heater load.

How can you tell if the car has been preconditioned? Say i set up a departure time for an hour from now, how can I tell?

You can hear it. Depending on the temp it will start by conditioning the batteries you can hear the recirc pump working and see the charger is drawing power. The app will also tell you it is doing it. The preconditioning of the cabin you should feel. When it switches to cabin (last 15 minutes or so) you will hear the blower fan and the charger will still be feeding power.

Edit: it needs to be plugged into an L2 (32 amp min) charger to precondition.

That's correct. The battery heater requires more power than the ~1kW provided by L1 charging.

That certainly shows that the cabin is heating but doesn't necessarily show that the battery is preconditioning.
You can hook up OBD (I have) and watch it but if you hear the recirc pump (get up close) and have heat in the cabin you can be pretty sure it is heating the battery also.

You can start it, shut down the cabin HVAC and tap off the auto shut down and it will heat the battery under battery. Just walk away, only thing is the cabin is neglected but it heats up quick.

You know this stuff just sharing with all.

There’s a lot going on behind the grill and inside the front wings and the range was as good as it could be?

I was originally hoping on bitter cold nights when the temp dropped in the teen's that plugging into Level 1 outlet before going to bed would keep the battery from losing range. Maybe staying in a super low level of charging would keep the battery "warmer" than brass monkey cold. From other posts this appears not to be the case.

I'd have to see comparable images with battery preconditioning on and off during cabin heating to see if there is a difference.

Did a test last week.

Car has HVB SoH @ 93.5% on 103,500 miles.

At outside temp of 6degC HVB module temps (see attached image) were around 18degC after a scheduled pre-conditioning.

The following morning after a day out and a remote start at 8degC outside temperature, module temps were all around 9degC so probably had some residual heat in HVB from previous day’s road trip and no HVB pre-heating in remote start.

I usually see this about an hour before my departure time:
