Supposedly, yes. But when I tried it, I discovered I wasn't preconditioning at all no matter what, so I haven't validated that.
Thanks. That ties back to the comment you made in #2 above about the preconditioning function being broken. I am guessing car scanner didn’t show heater functioning or battery temp going up. Do you think it’s had much impact on your DC charging up in the cold frozen tundra of Michigan?

The other challenge is that the Ford Nav App does not have all of the chargers in it. Though I have not renewed my Nav subscription, it is missing chargers that significantly pre-date my subscription (and almost my car,) making the alleged preconditioning even harder if the charger is not listed.

Some great info here but really...if EV's are ever going to appeal to a wider number of Americans things like "pre-conditioning" rigamarole have to go away. I'm hoping that charging at non-home stations gets easier without all the apps and hoops to try and get a reasonable price. In the early days of cell phones it was a similar goat rodeo trying to figure IF you were in your "zone" or were you roaming the world? Even trying to figure your bill took serious effort. I like how my Verizon package morphed from a horrible mess to a simple, affordable bill each month with no tricks or holds. Maybe EV charging will get there....

Question - If my car preconditions while driving to a DCFC and then I am unable to charge, does that waste precious energy which I may need to get me to another charger? Second, (a bigger subject), I think that the Mach-E user interface is too complicated and could use an "easy mode" providing key basic features.

Most people can just pull up and charge and probably won’t know there is a difference vs whatever precondition does to help.

Charging curve on the other hand, that is a whole different level of voodoo that people will have issues wrapping their heads around.

Like yes, it’s faster to go to 80% and not fully charge, trust me bro.

Yes, energy is required to precondition.

Since preconditioning isn’t necessary to charge, don’t cause it to happen if you’re cutting it that close.

……………or at all, it’s pointless??‍♂ Isn’t it?

I think it’s pointless to worry about it but it actually does something positive, … in theory.
I’m sure you’re right, not something I have time to worry about when I’m out working the Stang, life’s too short?

This is my biggest issue with it. I've not checked since last winter, but none of the chargers along the 401 corridor through Ontario are there. It's only Canada's busiest highway through our biggest province.

So in the past I'd fake it out by finding a charger near where I wanted to be and navigate to it, but not actually charge there. Then I'd go to the actual charger I wanted to charge at. That worked.

How do you add vehicles to the maps?
1. Go in your car, turn it on, open up CarPlay.
2. On your phone, open Maps and to the right of the search bar is your personal Icon. Click on that icon and scroll down to Vehicles and choose your Mach-E.

generally, lithium batteries charge best around 70°F. "preconditioning" is the process of getting your battery pack close to that "condition" so you can charge fastest when you plug-in.

if you are in a climate much lower than 70°F you can benefit from the preconditioning. since we're in summer time most folks won't see much benefit; winter will be different.

If you send a Public Charging location to the Ford navi and save the location as a favorite (or whatever it’s called), and then add that saved location as a destination, or waypoint within the route?, does that enable preconditioning of the battery?
I think I have read posts saying that is the case, although I may have misunderstood. Perhaps people were just saying that’s a way to add a charge location not identified by the Ford navi for whatever reason.
in the top left of the IPD make sure the next stop looks like a charging station.

Right, but it’s basically “nice to have.” When you get to the charger it’s still going to charge the car, pre-conditioned or not.

Anybody know how much time it really saves?
