Reddit user finds hidden web browser?

It almost hurts that there is a highly requested feature SO CLOSE, yet probably won't be a thing for years to come.
Do tesla's have a web browser? I can definitely see how it would be easy to restrict it's use to wifi/parked cars, but there is probably a rabbit hole of red tape regarding security with a general purpose browser like this..

It actually does use the wifi connection if it's available.

Can confirm. In the US and tested with a captive portal WiFi and won't load.

Looks like it's possibly even Chrome based from the error.

All I can think of is creating a web-server that has virtual hosts (domains) setup to answer for care.siriusxm.com. Would require hardcoding the DNS at a router level to your own server, joining WiFi to get your own Portal Page (such as one that just has links to youtube, etc.)

Then comes the issue of if the browser will mind a self-signed certificate... but it's worth a shot. Probably an upcoming weekend project. @benk016 is something like FORScan Lite + OBD dongle enough to change the asbuilt?

Also: Why doesn't Ford just enable this as a feature, even if they tethered it to a data plan? Safety seems there to disengage over 5mph, feels like a slap in the face to need to find methods like* this.

No, you need the windows app to edit the asbuilt data.

it keeps working if you crawl along but the video stops playing when you hit 5 mph and the screen locks up too. just like the games. but there is no warning pop-up

I used to use a jailbroken iPhone 8 with Cydia installed and the app called CarPlayEnable installed. Came in handy while charging the MME. I could even watch Discovery+ while driving lol. Most likely the person used the Andriod Auto hack on a rooted device. This website provides some insight for those wanting alternative apps installed, but keep in mind your iPhone has to be jailbroken (https://carplayhacks.com/).

I imagine no chance Ford would enable this. Any idea how much youtube traffic people would use while charging? Their costs go up by usage I imagine.

That said, I really like the idea of getting the car to tether to a linux AP (raspi?) and log the web requests it makes. Likely can spoof the DNS for something sirius and enable this in USA without hacks.

FYI. I can confirm that I was nowhere near California when I signed in to my Google account in the web browser but this is where Google thought I was.

Oh haha...well I would be scared to hack Sync but jailbreaking an older iPhone was super easy to do and made those long charges a lot more interesting.

For Android don't need a rooted one, just developer mode on and side load AAAD. Did it in about 10 minutes earlier today.

Only way they make this available is if they can route the web traffic through your phone. If not you can definitely say bye to the free cell connection after the 3 years.
