I’m saddened by all of this news and discussion. Then again, if Ford can at least give us faster charging, an octo-valve-like heat pump, ventilated seats, heated rear seats, and maybe even a HUD before they retire it completely, it would be perfect! Is that too much to ask….especially since they have the former Tesla head engineer on staff? Please Ford, get this done in time for MY 2027 lease…..THAT might be a car I would keep for 10 years!

Lincoln is going to use the $30k plain platform? Nope. The 3 row EV platform may be waiting for Ford's battery plant to begin production.

"platform" means different things when it is an electric skateboard than it did when it was a ladder frame or unibody ICE chassis. An electric skateboard is a lot more flexible than what we may be assuming.

I see no reason to jump to the conclusion that the Mach E name goes away because the next gen platform changes. For perspective, the Mach E sells more units than any Lincoln model.

Ford learned a lot with the Mach E... mostly that the traditional dependency on suppliers to engineer their own stuff doesn't work in an EV. You need a high degree of vertical integration and you need to do 150K units a year... a "single" platform is needed to get you close to these numbers.

Given the number of "platforms" the Mustang name has graced, I'd almost hazard the opinion that slapping a MachE name on some cost reduced version is the true heritage.
Skateboard platforms are designed to be good, and usually are easily adaptable. If so, it can use lower end batteries, engines, suspension etc or higher and high end. The original Mustang was built on a low-end 'chassis and did quite well. It did have one major redo that was terrible - all of the 80s as I remember.

They should kill EV's. Their software and updates are atrocious. This puts people off to EV's when this is their first. Maybe they killed off BC also and will just use Tesla AP/FSD
Such an interesting vehicle.
I haven't been around here very long. About 6 months.
But it's amazing to me that the same vehicle spurs such contradicting comments, especially from owners that have had a Mach-E far longer than myself.

I have read multiple times "this has been the best car I have ever owned"

And although I haven't owned mine long enough for the statement to yet apply to me, I already can say that it feels like possibly the best put together car I have ever owned. And that's high praise from me considering the bar I have to compare to is a certain German make that is still very tight at 19 years old.

But this same car is declared a piece of junk and the biggest regret by others who own one.

I've noticed some hardcore fans of certain things aren't really open to entertaining certain ideas. Traditional mustang owners aren't accepting of the mach-e, and a lot of people on this site seem to ironically be against the idea of future ICE mustang models. Personally, I'm someone who loves interesting ICE and EV models alike, but I'm a rare breed.
I hear ya.

I don’t know if I have great taste or horrible taste, because my favorite vehicles tend to also be super unpopular (from a sales perspective).

I get tons of compliments, but few others buy the same car.

My last car for example- 2015 Chevy SS sedan.

I always got tons of compliments from strangers (so I know they’re honest). But at its PEAK, Chevy sold 2500 of them per year and for the last 2 years had to discount 25% off MSRP to even sell them.

Cool car, but super unpopular when it came to people writing a check.

The rarity certainly helped when I sold it to CarMax in 2021 for $45k though!

Maybe if Ford does kill the Mach E and replace it with an econobox it’ll help my resale too.

What's going on with GM's Ultium? I had high hopes of it when it was first proposed. Latest I've heard is GM is pulling back on EV production. Why? Follow the money...

At least Ford is trying.
I look forward to reasonably sized EVs that are efficient from Ford. Perhaps it will inspire GM. That said, think Hyundai will beat both with the introduction of EV3 to go along with the Kona EV.

Internet forums seem to be mostly for obsessing about X thing that you supposedly hate so much, that you spend a copious amount of your life thinking about it.

Not Mach E specific, pick any topic, then go find out why it’s horrible, and you should hate it.

We had already resigned ourselves to the fact that our next EV - which we want to be a 3-row, likely won't be a Ford. We're not going back to gas, so if Ford doesn't come out with one in the next 2 to 3 years, we'll likely be buying something else.
Yep! im planning on selling my mme in the next year for a Rivian R1s. I kind of gave up on Ford recently as they seem to have left their loyal, early adopters in the dust for bc 1.3. Im not going to let them keep lying to my face and taking my money. Not to mention their service departments and dealers suck so bad!

I hope they don’t call the next model Pinto!

IMG_1012.jpeg
Not relevant to the conversation, but I'm having a hard time getting over this photograph. I mean, who thought that pain job was a good idea? Is the Pinto able to go so fast in reverse that flames come shooting out the back end? Did Elon launch it into space and it is using the rear hatch as a heat shield for re-entry? Or is is just a warning to not rear end it, because the tailpipe can get jammed into the gas tank and make the whole thing explode? :cwl:

Now back to your regularly scheduled argument discussion.

Not sure about your source. The Explorer EV (3row) slated for production in Oakville has been delayed. Ford is putting in F250 &350 to catch up on orders. After that the EV’s are coming back otherwise the Canadian government will want its money back!!

Res 'who makes a bad (skateboard) platform?'

Statement was more of 'if Ford does an excellent job' of the $25K model, it could be really good. Adaptable, easier and cheaper to repair, lending itself to inexpensive mass production.

Those 80s Mustangs were horrible. My daughter bought a used one.

Every car brand will let you down some point. Rivian’s have their own problems just like every person I have ever dated. You could drive it off the lot and end up with a bad battery module just a few months down the road. If Rivian could build a truck for the cost of my Mach e gt I would buy one too.
