Turns out the doctors weren’t ready to discharge Sonic tonight. So I won’t have the BIG update for you until tomorrow. But this is still a pretty big update: Ford is replacing my IPC with a next gen unit. I believe the screen buzz was at least one factor in Ford sourcing the next gen unit, and that Ford wouldn't be doing this if they didn’t think they’d fixed it. So I am feeling pretty confident that this is gonna fix the issue.

Because this is a next gen screen, it actually requires new software. Software that takes a long time to update. This is why my car wasn’t finished today even though started updating the screen software around noon. All this info comes from the technician. They brought in some sort of regional Mach E specialist to oversee the repair. The tech tells me that he thinks this new software may include some other changes - but I’d take that worth a pound of salt.

Ok - more to come tomorrow including hopefully a video!

That’s great news! I hope the new screen is 100% buzz free. If you can, please do ask if they have a new part number for it that all of us who are experiencing this issue can get on and try to get our dealerships to install!

I hope new software means new things like showing regen and power consumption.

I'm going to be the first person in line for a replacement bet your bottom dollar on that.

Hmm, I wonder why, if we are speaking just about new firmware upload?
No idea. Maybe I’ll get lucky and my odometer will get reset.

I did ask today whether the new screen has any sort of new number that would distinguish it from the first run - tech wasn’t sure but said he’d look into it.

Because likely the cluster did not come loaded with graphics data. Firmware update might be 8 minutes, graphics upload 8 hrs.

Kinda weird though that you have to “load” anything onto the screen, right? I always thought the IPC was just a peripheral.

It's a computer, so the load is more analogous to that of loading a large modern game from, say, Steam, through a not-so-fast interwebs connection.

I agree, never heard of such a thing for what is basically a computer monitor in the car.

It's not just a monitor though. Think of it as more of an AIO computer.
