I have zero desire to buy a tesla for myself but this is awesome for the market and people in the market for a new car. I'm thrilled that Tesla is able to respond to the new tax credit rules so quickly.

The tax credit is doing exactly what it was designed to do: get manufacturers to sell cheaper EVs. No credit if you want an expensive EV makes sense to me.
I agree with this and I hope it serves as a "reset" for EV pricing altogether. It may not be great for current owners, but as a whole I think it's a very good thing that this is likely to make the whole EV market more affordable.

This has everything to do with Tesla inventory at record highs while we are knocking on the door of a recession with high interest rates.

Thanks.

But if you go read the KBB article, it did not say that either. It said "Among EV shoppers, Tesla was dominant". And it's a 5/16/22 article, which is referring to a study done earlier in the year. If you look for the study, you'll find that Tesla's "domination" was that it occupied 4 of the 10 slots on an electrified list. #1 on the list was RAV4 Hybrid.

The study refers to top considered electrified models. It makes no mention of Tesla being a preferred brand. And, since Tesla is #4 on the list, they clearly aren't. In short, it wasn't a brand study at all, it was a shopping study of models. Given Tesla's market penetration, it's not surprising that their models are more shopped - but it says nothing about the brand. https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-i...rand-watch-shopping-for-electrified-vehicles/

If you find the November report, it's not favorable to Tesla. https://www.coxautoinc.com/wp-conte...elley-Blue-Book-Brand-Watch-Luxury-Report.pdf

You said "the vast majority of people view Tesla as desirable." I don't think anyone could produce anything that said the vast majority of people in the US are view Tesla as desirable.

At this point Ford needs to do whatever they can to
  • Make the Mach E an SUV again
  • Get more Mach E and Lightning prices just under the thresholds for the tax credits

unless it’s Tesla solar and you go thru the whole song & dance and then they renege on the deal as they jack up the price by 30%. Ask me how I know.
Inquiring minds want to know more. I’m getting conventional solar installed in Feb. My wife really wanted solar shingles but the numbers for the Tesla solar didn’t work out and not many other options in my area.

Glad I did not take my Premium LR that arrived on 12/30. Was out of town and thought I missed the lowest price ever with the special offer on 2/10/22 order. Did not take it after a 10 month wait. Ford must and will lower their prices on 2023's now.
Maybe... maybe not. I don't think they will sell at a loss. The prices may not come down as much as many expect.

Some people wouldn't believe that Tesla was building in the 'dealer markup' in their selling price over the past year and a half, instead choosing to believe that those massive price increases were all due to inflation + commodity price rises.

Here is the proof it was always Tesla ADM.

Tesla are a pain in the rear. I went through the entire solar process and waited seven months before they cancelled the project 48 hours before install date. Just sent a generic email and refunded the deposit.

absolutely. Tesla has always been this way. Their prices fluctuate regularly. In fact if you track their base model 3 prices, its always a few hundred dollars more then the average new vehicle price. Same for the Model Y when compare to avg. Sale price of SUVs.

Nah, the Mach-E is already too SUV.

Ford should double down on making the Mustang Mach-E a more performance oriented vehicle with less luxury (and costs) and they should release a different model that qualifies for the SUV tax credit.

I didn't read through 12 pages, but I am guessing that the price cuts are temporary due to the language on the Tesla site saying that select M3 and MY qualify for the rebate until March 2023. I am guessing in March prices will go back up to above the tax credit threshold. I could be wrong though.

sub 50K EVs may look a lot more like Chevy Bolts and a lot less like Taycans.
