So the manual is telling porkiesMine never leaves my pocket. As long as the key fob is within the range of the car you don't need the key fob to unlock the door. The car will pick up the signal from the key fob so you just push the button to open the door. Likewise you don't need the key fob to lock the car. Just push the padlock symbol on the doors. Or you can play with the key in your pocket, whatever takes your fancy. It's just YOU have to lock the car, it won't do it for you when you are out of range.
