Hi All

I have recently taken delivery of my Mach E and loving it so far. I have been lurking for a week or so extracting lots of good info, so thank you all.

I have a question which I haven't been able to find an answer to and I am hoping you guys maybe able to help, apologies if they have been asked before and I have missed it.

I didn't receive my factory code (for the door panel) when I got my car (second hand) I have gone back to the dealer and they are trying to get it. In the meantime I have seen there are other ways to get it.

I have tried the 2 fob trick which does indeed pop a factory code on the screen which initially made me happy, until i discovered that it is only a 5 digit code and here in the UK we have 7 digit codes?!?!?

Others have mentioned it is retrievable via Forscan, i am happy using Forscan and have a compatible ODB adapter but I have not seen anywhere where it is listed (which module etc).

Is anyone able to shed any light on retrieving the code for UK models?

@WD just down the road from, good to have someone else local :D
Howdy neighbour ?

Those key code cards are pesky little things to find even when the vehicle is new. Worth checking the glove box and the sun visor. If you get stuck let me know as I can retrieve your code using a physical connection to the car and FDRS (the dealer servicing software)

Usually anything like this requires a trip to a dealer with the V5 VRD Form to prove ownership, along with proof of ID I suspect and they should be able to do something for you.

If you
Really helpful thank you. FYI I have the AWD extended range version if you have the data sheet for that? :) I've checked the tyre treads for depth and all are equal over the tyre width except for the front offside which has 1mm more wear on the outer edge. Tyres are 5mm at the rear and 6 mm at the front which I presume is O.K. as the rear motor is in use more than the front motor (I presume) with spirited acceleration. ;)This is at 15,000 miles.
If you have 5mm left on your rears after 15000 miles then you are doing remarkably well. I've done 15150 in my RWD ER and have just replaced both rears. They were down to 2mm.

Perhaps the tyres wear differently with AWD? Just guessing. I don't drive it like I stole it all the time but accelerate briskly when needed (overtaking, joining dual carriageway, Motorway from a slip road etc). By the way what tyres have have you replaced the Bridgestones with?

My car came with continentals, which might account for difference. Replaced with the same

Got an invite the other day to go and see the new Explorer in the flesh. I imagine it will only be a static vehicle, a bit like the Mach E tour that occurred in early 2020. Sounds from the invite that there will be some Mach E team present as well so it might be an ldeal time to bend some ears about our ongoing issues. Could be interesting.

Feel your pain, DV!

I have 3 chips, one huge, in my second screen!

Massive stone wrecked first over Spaghetti one day but Ford paid for new screen under warranty as it was the time of the dodgy screen & pano roof recalls, so did well out of a Ford there.

Chipped screens an occupational hazard of driving high mileages, I’m afraid.

How’s your mileage coming along, DV?

Mine’s c58,500.

Sent ‘Stangy in for service yesterday just before it’s out of its 60k warranty with a list to check out so there’s a line in the sand in case failures occur in those areas outside the warranty period, and to get some work done under warranty.

Whining from transmission for one.

Deteriorated puddle light lenses another.

Swishing noise from cooling system on initial startup in morning.

Defective brakes; been driving around for c1,500 miles with defective brakes (what could possibly go wrong there?) during which time left rear park brake no longer applied itself, Ford now have car, got park brake to apply and could not release it to get it off their ramp, you couldn’t write this stuff!

They’re great down there at Sandicliffe and Anj on their service desk is a diamond looking after me and keeping me updated.

Got a nobby little Fiesta on loan which is just fine but won’t be hauling my tools to Glasgow or somewhere in that little badger!

Hoping Stangy is back tomorrow ready for a trip out on a jolly watching staged collisions Thursday up in Derbyshire.

The goodwill from that £3k Ford gave me when Bozo the clown Johnson robbed me of my EV grant still lasts so I’m not complaining.

Keep enjoying the ‘Stang!
Up to 53500, going in for service end of June... Interesting about the swishing noise, mine sounds like someone is emptying a sink when I start and switch off, really loud running water noise. Also having random 2 beeps on the horn when i lock, or get out and sometimes just when I stop!!!

Just got mine back from servicing & replacement of rear park brake wiring harnesses under warranty yesterday.

£325 inc brake fluid change.

Awaiting new puddle light lenses which are on back order, they couldn’t find anything causing swishing and the transmission whining was put down to the tyres so they’ll be road testing it with me when it goes back for it’s puddle lights because it ain’t the tyres!

May get it over a ramp in the meantime and check the wheel & motor bearings etc.

Great to have it back so did a 375 mile road trip today, almost 59k now!

Have you seen the one in US with 73,000 mikes on the clock?

Apologies for the delayed response busy week!

Thanks for the offer WD I may ask to take you up on it, I am just waiting for the dealer to confirm if they can get it on the system or not.

Purchased from TrustFord Castleford, so long trip back if I want them to retrieve via FRDS.

Did the really charge you £165 for brake fluid change??

Ford are only charging £160 for the 2yr servicing of the Mach E

Oh no, JR1108, it’s even worse than that!

First 2 yrs routine servicing actually cost £520.56 inc VAT, though I can recover the VAT so true cost to me is “only” £483.43!

?

During which time either Nottm Alignment have it in for full 4-wheel alignment checks at further cost or I do one occasionally in my garage.

Plus, of course, the added cost of 6 new tyres.

I’m happy with those costs in view of mileage and the sheer amount of heavy lifting the car does - did you see in previous post the amount of equipment I carry around c85% of the time?

1st service (1yr/18,500miles) before Ford altered service intervals to 2yrs unlimited miles cost me £163.30 exc VAT at 18,557 miles Feb ‘22.

After Ford changed service intervals and I wasn’t happy doing 60,000 miles between any kind of servicing I paid £50 exc VAT for an interim service & safety check at 42,655 miles Nov ‘22.

Then, despite next 2 year service not falling due until Feb ‘24 which, would be at c78,000 miles, I decided I’d have a service carried out just before warranty was due to expire at 60,000 when I had what would be it’s 4-year service done last week at 58,494 miles at following cost:

£195 service
£21 Cabin filter renewal
£37.46 brake fluid change, and,
£16.67 collision damage waver on insurance for the roller skate I borrowed

All excluding the VAT which I recover.

Could be worse, though, have you seen the reports of servicing on US posts?

Aside from the fact the Americans continually fap over tyre rotation (!) their dealers have them in for 10,000 mile services!

Ford paid the £3k which the Johnson crook stole from me so I’m still in credit even after I changed their crappy short rear wiper and the door badges which kept falling of, oh, and I put up with the poor contactless ‘phone charger which doesn’t charge a ‘phone but cooks it until it turns off to cool down.

So, my love for this car remains unconditional!

Yours,

Lighthearted & tongue in cheek from Nottingham.
