Oh, OK. Old habits die hard I guess. I do it the one way, and it works in every situation or car I drive. I lose upwards of 5 seconds so I'm not losing sleep over it.
Same here. I even apply the parking brake before I shut it off. ?

Do you also put the car in park before turning it off?
To me, this is a great example of a feature that might be bad for some to learn. Does every vehicle with a rotary knob transmission selector automatically go to P when the vehicle is shut off? If not, someone is going to do this on a vehicle and the vehicle will still be in gear.

As noted, it takes maybe a second to spin the knob back to P.

Mike, I'm disappointed ?

Really? Does every shower have 2 knobs for hot and cold? Does a single handle shower mean people will burn themselves? I tend to think that humans are a little smarter than that. We're talking about a car with a level of autonomous driving and many other technological advances. We can't assume people will be dumb otherwise we will never advance.

First rule in designing something is that you'll always underestimate the incompetence of the user.

Unfortunately, you'd be wrong. I suspect if a formal study was done, the average IQ of forum members here is quite a bit above the national average.

There is a reason why many efforts to teach the public something are geared to a 7th grade level.

George Carlin once said "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

Bingo!!!!

Many decades ago I worked as a programmer. In those days, you dialed a rotary phone, listened for a modem sound, put the receiver in a coupler, and logged on. They made us do a day on the support line, and one caller couldn't get the system to connect. I said "when you pick up the phone to dial, is there a dial tone?" They hadn't checked. Line was dead.

The terminals were fed by paper, everything was printed. They were setup to ensure that they didn't type without paper, because then you're typing on the roller. Therefore, you can't log on if there is no paper. Any idiot can see that the fan feed is empty of paper, right? Nope.

Don't assume intelligent life exists.

The thought process that goes into designing something is vastly different than the idea that we shouldn't change something because people are "accustom" to something different. That's a "set in your ways" mentality that prohibits the advancement technology and society as a whole. We wouldn't have EVs if we didn't try something different.

LOL I didn't say things shouldn't change.

The Mach-E is my 4th plugin...I think I've embraced the change ;)

I think my grandfather called this a kawinkidink ?
Having not heard this word in years—several generations ago— I just had to look up it’s origins. Useless trivia but thought I’d share. Don’t mean to get off topic. You all are making unplugging a charger into a very interesting topic, btw.

“The earliest example we’ve found for “coinkydink” (often spelled and pronounced “kawinkydink”) is from the June 1952 issue of Trolley Topics, a publication of the San Francisco Municipal Railway. The term appears in an “Office News” item about trolley employees:

“Just after bowling his massive 696 series in the Association sweepstakes, Jimmy ‘The Arm’ Dickinson reached into his wallet for a look at a raffle ticket that he holds. Lo and behold, the number it bore was 696 also! A charming ‘coinkydink,’ as Jim Pagee says.”

The Random House Dictionary of American Slang describes “coinkydink” as an “intentional malapropism” used jocularly to mean a coincidence. (A malapropism, as we wrote on the blog in 2007, is an unintentionally comic misuse of a word.)”

My comment that you quoted was in reply to "someone is going to do this on a vehicle and the vehicle will still be in gear" implying that we shouldn't change the method of putting the car in park because of what people are accustom to doing.

I think the salient point here is that while neither action is necessary (putting in park or pushing the button before unplugging on L2), they are also harmless and add virtually nothing in terms of time or effort.

Same, I’ll even put it in neutral after the parking brake if I’m on a hill. It’s a habit from owning a VW with dual clutch transmissions. If those cars rest on the park pawl, good luck releasing it ?.

You've been lucky. Often stopping the EA session at the charger results in either an error in the car, or an error on the EA app. We had that more than once, and one day it locked up our EA app account for the entire day.
I have been lucky too. It doesn't seem to matter which method I use as they all perform the same with no fault messages. Okay for me to stop a DCFC session with the EA screen controls or by pushing the stop button at the charge port.

I don't think I have ever tried just pressing the thumb button like I do for L2......that seems risky to me. Probably would be fine, just haven't ever tried it. ???

Similar here as well. I sometimes turn off the car first but I always apply the parking brake before I take my foot off the brake pedal. (The parking brake will set even if the car is off, provided your foot is still on the brake pedal)

My driveway has an incline so I don't like it when the car rolls back and preloads the parking pawl. If I drive away later it is a little jarring when I back away.

I usually throw it in Park before turning off the car. Just a habit I guess. There are many times where I get out of a running car so putting it in Park and setting the parking brake adds extra safety for me.

I once had to chase my F-250 down a parking lot because the shift tube bolts loosened up so while it said it was in Park, the lever down at the transmission was in neutral or reverse. I shut off the engine, got out, locked the door and walked away. Luckily I happened to look back and the truck was rolling down the parking lot. Thank goodness for RKE. Could you imagine if PaaK was a thing back then? :)
