Newbie here... 2 days with a bare bones 2023 Select. As I read through the forums, I get increasingly paranoid about failures. I feel like Indiana Jones peering into the hole: "HVBJB..why did it have to be HVBJB..."
Am I overthinking things too much? I really want to love this car.

- The 2023 is different than the prior years, as Ford as evolved both hardware and software. Many 2021 owners had issues that 2022 owners, and then 2023 owners, will not experience. This is especially true with software issues, that have been mostly resolved.

I’d also add that many EVs of all makes and models have some issues due to new tech. The forum is a great resource on what to do if you experience one and how to avoid common pitfalls (e.g., how to properly lift your vehicle to change / swap tires, etc.). Plus, complaining is therapeutic sometimes!

I feel the same way. I bought a used Premium 4ex 2021 in April on an impulse. Then found out about this issue. I worry about it all the time. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone.

Hello NY neighbor. Rick is right, don't overthink it.

My MME was built prior to the HVBJB improvements. One day on the NYS Thruway mine went to reduced power mode when it identified the deficiency in the contactor(s). The car was still drivable and I continued to use it just the same until the day it was replaced. That was 12,000mi ago and no issues since. My replacement HVBJB is likely similar to the one your car was built with in the first place.

27,000mi on the ticker and counting. I've got a family of 4, and we've always made it home.

FYI, you are also close to two dealerships whose service departments have served me very well for the past 2 decades: Van Bortel by you and Towne in Buffalo.

Thresholds for tolerance vary wildly on these forums. Some people go completely irate over chime sounds or infotainment quirks and chirp at their dealer to get their car bought back. Others here are heavily DIY and look forward to changing ride dynamics with shock swaps instead of taking it to a dealer. It's all relative.

If you want to love your car, then you should!

Love your car. Be aware that the likelihood of having a HVJB failure of the first model year was around 3-5 percent, and way less with your spec. Your model year car came with the better part that thus far has probably seen less than 30 total failures thus far.

Doing some quick napkin math, your likelihood of having this issue is only around 0.06451612903%. So the possibility still exists, but it is highly unlikely. Enjoy your car, probably never going to be an issue for you.

When you move to a new city do you go look at the arrest records to learn about your neighbors?

This is where people go to complain about problems. The more you read, the more problems you will find.

The days my car works perfectly……. There is no point making a thread about it.

If you want to feel better, go find the forum of whatever car you traded in and read about the issues those owners are having.

17 months, no issues, worked well thru the winter. Forum is a great source of info. Sometimes you learn something, sometimes you can share something and many time you can be entertained! If you read something that worries you then use that to learn more and then you will be prepared if the situation ever arises. Enjoy your ride!

Don’t worry about any issues.

However, note that you are driving a relatively new generation of Ford’s EV, so the best you can do is to keep Ford BEV support numbers handy. And for any very long drives, especially if you have kids, just make sure you’re stocked up in case you have to wait a couple of hours in a very unlikely event that you have to pull over and wait for a tow service.

You have a trim level that a) isn’t as susceptible to most issues that performance centric trims are and b) it’s a 2023 so you’re even less susceptible than 2021 models.

Drive the electric car like it is meant to be. Zipping through traffic. But, please don’t drive recklessly.

As far as I can tell no one knows why it happens, and if that's the case worrying won't help

Have there been any documented hardware changes in 2023's? All I can find is that awd is now standard in CR1s. I honestly don't think Ford has improved anything at all since we're still seeing the same issues as older models. Software wise it's hard to even know since versions are all over the place in terms of who has what version
