I've been driving a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, but recently had the urge to get a full EV. I did my research (I'm someone who researched the s#%$ out of everything I buy) and just leased (at a great rate) a California Rte. 1 (saved me more than $3K over the Premium with only a few better options missing that I didn't care about) for about $3000 under MSRP). I'm going to save about $15K over three years in reduced monthly payments, fuel costs, and maintenance.

I've only had the car for a week, but I love it! It's fun to drive, fast, comfortable, well appointed, I love the tech, and it looks great (compared to comparable EVs).

I watched a lot of Youtube videos before I got my Mach-E comparing it with Tesla Y, Kia EV6, etc. The general conclusion of the majority of videos is negative. I don't get it.

I realize that the Mach-E has had some problems in their early iterations of the car (as any new car will have, particularly an EV) and it still does. At the same time, can anyone explain why there are so many haters and why people think the Mach-E is so bad?

I don't think its the car itself, but rather Ford's response once those problems are brought up. It's Ford's really first EV, so there's going to be teething problems.

The car is well built overall, but with a few fatal flaws (HVBJB being one). Ford is finally doing the right thing and issued a replacement recall.

The other thing is that people compare it to Tesla, and you can complain a lot about tesla, but they got their software down. There systems are all integrated from the bottom up. Where as Ford's are a patchwork from multiple companies, so OTA updates can be challenging to say the least.

If you're happy, then forget what everyone else on the internet say, just go out and enjoy the car.

I don’t know the reason. Mechanically my 2021 has had a few issues all fixed under warranty.

Maybe this is all HVBJB-related? That’s gonna be fixed under recall. Or maybe there are other widespread mechanical issues I’m not aware of.

Software has some persistent bugs, but I would expect that’s true for everybody.

The biggest disadvantage the MME has versus the Hyundai or Kia is an older, slower 400v charging platform. That would def be something to consider if you road trip with any frequency.

Price could also be a consideration. If price was roughly comparable, I’d choose the Mach. If several thousands difference, I’d take a serious look at the cheaper car.

I think the worst thing and it seems especially on the fb mach e pages, the owners complain about EVERYTHING. I just don't get it. I mean legitimate complaints but some are just over the top.

21 GTPE, have had HVJB failure early in ownership, have had a suspension fault fixed by module update, have had a voltage sensor replaced in the rear motor. Other than that, car has been flawless (bugs not withstanding) in 18k miles. The MME is a great car, people don’t like things they don’t understand. There is the whole Mustang name thing, and also people have their biases.

Thanks for the quick and supportive replies! I looked at the Tesla Y (seems like a lower price until you try to finance it, then Tesla has huge APR and money facto), Subaru Solterra (lousy range), EV6 (ugly, cheap feeling, and not cheaper cost), ID4 (lousy range).

This forum hasn't been fully of haters, but tons on YT and other internet sources.

I'm not a big road tripper, so public charging isn't an issue for me.

I hear Telsa isn't very well built.

A few follow-up questions.

Is the HVBJB a problem with '23s or just earlier? Is it a problem for all cars or just some?

Unfortunately it looks like the HVBJB does affect '23, just not as often. But Ford has not acknowledged it yet, so no recall on the '23. They will fix it if it breaks.

Love our 2021 GTPE clocking 17800 miles with one dealer software update for 12v and susp faults. Fixed in a few hours. Nothing else so we are extremely pleased having one. Our 2023 modelY AWD long range is also a really great ev. Great mileage, tons of upgrades from previous years and a fun drive. Both ev are highly recommended. In Jan taking a test drive on a model x AWD long range.

It is a forum??‍♂

Trolls are prevalent.

People find problems often which aren’t really problems because they go looking for problems that are in only their minds.

Sure, there are hiccups, it’s a car……..made by a car maker!!!!

70,000 miles up in 29mths and it’s just an amazing car, no real problems.

Wow, lots of miles in just more than 2 years; that's a real test! Good to hear.

2022 GT here. 15,000 miles. Had the HVBJB replaced once. No other issues, the car drives well. As mentioned previously Ford is still learning and improving on the software side.
