I've been driving a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, but recently had the urge to get a full EV. I did my research (I'm someone who researched the s#%$ out of everything I buy) and just leased (at a great rate) a California Rte. 1 (saved me more than $3K over the Premium with only a few better options missing that I didn't care about) for about $3000 under MSRP). I'm going to save about $15K over three years in reduced monthly payments, fuel costs, and maintenance.

I've only had the car for a week, but I love it! It's fun to drive, fast, comfortable, well appointed, I love the tech, and it looks great (compared to comparable EVs).

I watched a lot of Youtube videos before I got my Mach-E comparing it with Tesla Y, Kia EV6, etc. The general conclusion of the majority of videos is negative. I don't get it.

I realize that the Mach-E has had some problems in their early iterations of the car (as any new car will have, particularly an EV) and it still does. At the same time, can anyone explain why there are so many haters and why people think the Mach-E is so
I don't think its the car itself, but rather Ford's response once those problems are brought up. It's Ford's really first EV, so there's going to be teething problems.

The car is well built overall, but with a few fatal flaws (HVBJB being one). Ford is finally doing the right thing and issued a replacement recall.

The other thing is that people compare it to Tesla, and you can complain a lot about tesla, but they got their software down. There systems are all integrated from the bottom up. Where as Ford's are a patchwork from multiple companies, so OTA updates can be challenging to say the least.

If you're happy, then forget what everyone else on the internet say, just go out and enjoy the car.
Cliche alert: 'a few fatal flaws' in a car that is 'well built overall': are we all driving a fabulous deathtrap?? ?

I love my July 22 Rapid Red Mach AWD EXT who I named Rosie. A dream to drive, fast, comfortable and safe. Big enough boot for my two Airedales. No major faults thus far - just two minor niggles. Main screen went blank so I learnt the reboot procedure and sorted that. Second niggle - Rosie has suddenly manifested a loud rattle from the dashboard region which is really annoying as Rosie is otherwise a very quiet running lady. She is going to my Ford dealership this week for her first inspection survey and will raise this as a warranty issue.

I must say that I have been extraordinarily well treated by both my dealership and the UK Ford BEV team and have nothing but praise for them.

That's a bit of a hyperbole. I'm not aware of accidents related to the HVBJB let alone deaths.

Dec ‘22 Grabber Blue GT PE ERnamed Yandu. 12k miles. Zero issues other than it’s too powerful, fast and my family never lets me drive my car! Just received an update and the GOM went up another 40 miles. August ‘22 Lightning Platinum ER with 19k miles also flawless.

There are a lot of good reviews on youtube as well, maybe the algorithm is sending you all the bad ones? Haha
Yes this is true. I saw a few bad ones at first but if you look at when they posted these videos, its usually over a year or 2. If you look at the videos posted within a few months looking at the post HVBJB issues the reviews start to change a lot! The few reviews that clinched it for me talked a lot about how much they loved the car, the drive, the smart driving features and the superior build quality over the Y (that most of the reviewers owned btw) and that the cons were the public charging issue with CCS stations (not an issue for me) and the missing of some nice to have features that the Tesla software excels at, not to mention the dumb design of the Frunk release lol. Again not an issue for me because where I live EVERYONE bought a Tesla or 2 over the past couple of years and when I ask them how many times they use all the "bells and whistles" the Tesla has, all of them admitted they only do so when "showing off" which falls off greatly once EVERY ONE you know already owns a Tesla and you've had it a few months LOL. Honestly after about 500 miles a car become ALL about the drive and the feeling you get when you step in and out of it. And for that the MME has so much more plus curb appeal than the boring design of Teslas.

Plus for me I own my own business so when I travel my Clients pay for rentals and lodging so I never use my cars for travel outside of about a 100 mile range so an RWD EV for me is perfection.

I test drove a Tesla Y one week before I bought my Mach E. I test drove a Mach E (not the one I bought) right before the Tesla Y test drive. BLUF: the Mach E has better finish, much better interior design, looks WAYYYY more sexy and the Tesla rattled while under way whereas the Mach E doesn't. Guess which car I bought afterward? ...now with over 52k miles on my odo and very happy.
Exactly what I did this month. Bought my MME on Friday. LOVING it.

2021GTPE 13000 miles and no problem. Best car I have ever had. I traded in a BMW X6 that was also a great car.

whatever problems it may have had in the past my friend they no longer exist. At least not in our 2023 Machi GT. The only complaint we have had with fit and finish was. The detail guy forgot to put edge stripping on the passengers door. Oh darn, that took a five minute fix.

What I like, even more is the fact that I finally come full circle!

as a 69-year-old man I have very fond memories of my first pony - a 1964 British racing green 286 convertible!

As of three days ago,, my wife and I own 2023 mock E GT with the performance package and dual motors as the OP has said the car is wicked fast, one of the quietest cars I’ve driven in my life and I’ve owned BMWs and Mercedes. The comfort and tack are almost over the top about the only thing they need to add to a future version is a heads up display and digital side mirrors!

We’ve put about 135 miles on it and my wife and I feel like it drives like a dream!
However, I’m not completely stuck in Pollyanna land?
I’m fully aware that in the next three years or five battery technology will have surpassed today’s, possibly by a factor of four certainly by a factor of two. Like the OP, I did the smart thing at least leased ?

Mine is a pleasure to own and drive. Only issue with the 12v battery fixed at the dealer with a software update. I do not road trip often. The image you see was taken at a B & B that we overnight-ed which is located in New Hampshire. They offered charging at no additional cost. I charge at home because the public charging infrastructure has not gained traction in New England. I tend to shy away from public chargers due to way people in general trash the chargers.
Select Model Built in April of 2021.
23,000 miles.
Total maintenance cost = $110.00 USD

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I love my Mach-E. I’ve had it a year and a half with over 16,000 miles and not one problem. Only minor glitches. I think most of the YouTube videos are people paid by Tesla to make any other EV look bad. I think it’s a great car and worth the money!

Only thing I would say needs improvement is some software features that I think we would all like. However I am aware that some of the lack of software features may have been intentional to help make the switch from ICE vehicles to EVs easier for customers. Overall I think it's a well intentioned vehicle and great vehicle to own. There are things they got very right with it, and also very wrong but that's only software wise and can be fixed.

They all have their pros and cons, and I think Ford itself is aimed in the right direction for their next generations. (Next model year does NOT equal next generation.)

My opinion is that it's generational and ego based. Most YouTuber's are younger while most forum members here are older. The older crowd isn't going to be as harsh towards the technology. My dad, as an example, doesn't want anything digital and would have nothing to compare the MME against. The younger crowd is more likely to compare the vehicle technologically with its peers. The MachE technologically is on the crappy end of the spectrum, the charge curve compared to other comparable vehicles is terrible, the mobile app compared to its peers is lacking and the list goes on (excluding the HVBJB issues, which are major in of itself).

There's also the ego factor here on the forum. Some people don't want to admit that they spent way too much for a MachE and dollar for dollar it's inferior to its peers. I know I got my ass handed to me financially.

I think that asking a forum dedicated to the car itself is extremely bias. Notice how most of the people who defend the car have never owned another EV (or they own Ford stock), while most who learn neutral or negative own or have owned other EVs. I tend to lean towards YouTube and the reviews of the vehicle as more accurate.

The problem is not that the MME is a bad car, but rather that It's over priced compared to it's competitors (Thanks Tesla.) Also Technology is advancing too quickly, and Ford is still stuck in the ICE OEM mindset. We no longer tolerate laggy screens and poorly laid out UI (thanks apple).

Love my MME. 3rd one. What I don't love is finding a 1/2 way decent dealer. A minor problem feels major when you have to wait 2 months to even get appt. On the 22 the cruise control button was intermittent. Told they couldn't reproduce. Made them go on ride with me until it happened. Then told me I pushed the button to much? Service manager came out said "you can just use brake to disengage". Then wanted to know why I used button anyway. Finally got frustrated told them I don't need a reason, it doesn't work, mechanic saw it, make it work 100%. I was then told oh we can just hook up to computer see if button doesn't work. But it is Friday at 3 we are leaving just make another appointment. They "rushed" me in with appointment just 1 month out with no loaner. So after waiting 2 months for appt and again another month after that to fix. Everytime button didn't work I was frustrated. The BEV team did get me loaner, but 3 appointments, 4 months to fix, 2 weeks in shop, and questioned why I expected a button to work 100% of time, or why I even want to use it. Then knowing more than salesman, service writer, or mechanic. Hear service writer tell me why EVs are bad, listing all negative talking points. Until I told him didn't buy car to save world, explained a bit, until finally said don't really care what you think can you get car in for service or not? Have several dealers less than 10 miles from me but have to drive an hour to a dealer to get decent service. THE DEALER NETWORK, is what I hate.

Youtubers work the algorithms and just want views. I'm a critical bastard. If I complain about Ford or the Mach-E it's because I love the car and just want it to see its full potential.

I'm out on an errand in the car and after 23k miles and 17 months I still love having any reason to drive my MME.

"Mach-E, Round II" is probably going to be amazing if this is Ford's 1st (rushed?) try. Enjoy your car!

I don't get this. The car has a 8y/100k mile battery and motor warranty. You can get a 8y/100k Bumper to bumper extended warranty for 1.5k. So reliability shouldn't be too much of a concern.
The warranty only helps if you can get the car repaired in a timely fashion. Our junction box failed catastrophically (left us stranded without warning) a few months ago, and it took just shy of two months for the only dealership in town to get around to fixing it. They were kind enough to provide us with a rental after a couple of weeks, but that doesn’t seem to be the norm. Relying on the warranty is fine if you have the flexibility and/or resources to deal with being without the car for upwards of a month, but Consumer Reports can’t base its reliability ratings on the assumption that everyone can absorb that cost and inconvenience without difficulty.
