I didn't know the liftgate was a composite material. From the damage it is clear though, it's not metal. Is it fiberglass?
Glassfibre reinforced plastic………

I had a Ford Focus Electric that was hit head-on. The insurance agent was in agreement with me to total it, mainly because the battery does not have air bags to cushion it's blow. The other guys insurance wanted it not to be totaled, because he had a guy who said he could fix it. We won, it got totaled.

Hoping your wife is still okay. I was rear ended and it took a while for me to really feel okay.

sure the
I never understand posts like this. Everyone knows, or should know, that you can't see the extent of damage from pictures, and therefore it's impossible for anyone to do anything but pull a guess out of their butts. Given that 99.9% of respondents aren't body shop estimators, it's useless information.

There will be 20 answers, and some percentage will guess right, and some will guess wrong, and you still have no information. "Biff on the forum said it's not totaled" wont' get you a dime.

It will be whatever the insurance company's estimator says it will be. You can then fight that, or not fight that. If they total it, since it's a 2021, and you have 100,000 miles, you'll be lucky to get $20,000 IMO. Since I'm unqualified even for that answer, take it for what it's worth. You can't go after the Jeep driver for more than the market value unfortunately.
Normally you and I are in agreement, but how is he going to get 20 different answers to a yes or no question? :)
And yes, it will be totalled, no if's and or butts about it..

I suspect the cost to repair will exceed the value of the car. You said the car will not engage drive, and I suspect the cost to fix that will put the nail in the coffin.

Like others pointed out, the insurance company will just look at current market value of the car (undamaged) vs the cost to repair. I suspect the cost to repair will more than exceed the current market value, which is what they should pay you for the car.

Yep!

Totalled!

100,000 miles ‘21 is probably worth a bag of chips and a whizzer!

It’s hit it right on the A pillar which looks like it’s gone in, that’s the sort of job a car of this age & mileage just won’t stand.

Probably for the best.

Hope wifey’s OK and don’t experience after effects.

Hope the settlement claim goes well and quick for you.
Appreciate it. I pulled some comps and the KBB for my car and recorded the screen to have a push back on where my car value would have been had their not been an accident and I was to sell it or a dealer was to sell it. 20 to 25k. So ready to fight the other sides adjuster if I need to

We were T-boned by an uninsured driver with a suspended license. She ran a red light and left the scene. 2 good samaritans followed her, called 911 and she was stopped by police 3 mile away. She was arrested for hit and run and drugs in her car.

Our insurance, State Farm, totaled under Our collision coverage since estimate exceeded 70% of value. They were VERY fair in their reimbursement. they eventually were able to collect from the other driver and State Farm sent us another check for our deductible.

It's not your job to fight "the other sides adjuster", you should be dealing with your insurance company..

My PPF and ceramic coat dealer found out the hard way it was not metal when he removed the stupid ass logo badge from the dealer and it took a bunch of paint off! He won;t be making that mistake again...

I did this with mine. Sure, you are out your deductible while everything settles, but it is honestly worth it, especially when the other party's insurance is not so hot.
That's why you pay premiums. Let them do the work.

having just gone through this (rear ended, car totalled), i feel for you. i had thought my 21 job 1 premium rwd std would be repaired and was looking into some reimbursement for value reduction but it ended up being totalled. so i agree with the others, i think yours will be given it looks significantly worse than mine. number one is physical safety/recovery so yes, hope your wife is doing ok.

but after that, definitely the hassle of being without the car you know and love (although hopefully you have rental coverage or if not, the other guy's insurance should pay for a rental).

and then there's getting a decent market value compensation. but even when it is reasonable, it's still not the exact car you had, right? like i had already dealt with all the recalls, hvbjb, etc. and had just put on aftermarket eibach springs/swaybars, upgraded rims, blue cruise extension, extended warranty, etc, all of which usually is not taken into account or reimbursed (unless you purchase some additional insurance rider).

what i would say is, for sure feel free to give a little bit of pushback if the number the total claims adjuster comes in with feels on the low end.

for my 21 premium std @ 60k miles, i initially got a fairly reasonable $28k (considering i bought it for $39k). i did my own comps since i honestly loved the car and wanted to be back in the same car (or maybe a extended battery one) and their number was on the high end for my area (LA). but i knew i would still have to fork over money out of pocket to get the replacement car up to where i had the old car. so i mentioned that and even sent him receipts. while he couldn't comp or reimburse me for those, he asked me a weird question: "what number would make you happy?" this is AAA btw, which we've been with forever and also covers our home insurance (don't know for sure how much of that plays a role in this story).

i didn't really have a number immediately off hand, since i didn't expect to be asked! in retrospect, probably $30k for a prorated comp for for all that other stuff.

he looked at the photos the adjuster had taken and said "looks like you kept your car in really good shape" and then said "let me work on this." a few hours later came back with $35k. while i know KBB has the fair/good/excellent/etc scoring system and value adjusts for that, i definitely didn't expect that big of a bump. and maybe they went after the other company's insurance so that allowed them come back with a higher number, who knows.

but that's what allowed me to replace the 21 premium with a 23 gt pe, which is better in every way. so sometimes things work out :)

Good to know. I've never been in this situation before. Had a handful of people say to lawyer up only to talk to my lawyer friend and said "unless they don't pay your medical bills in full don't pay a lawyer"
