A set is three or two? Small Pos?

This happen the first week I had it -28C barely driven and just sitting there. If you remember they fixed it with software right at the beginning by the time it warmed up. Second time fall -15C 2 50KW DCFC's parked in someone's driveway over 200 miles away and 12V dead. Had a charger and got home. Replaced 12V. Sitting brand new 12V no DCFC -28C does it again. Not sure maybe damaged at the factory since it has been doing it since day one or two problems same out come? Drilling ports and having a 12V charger in the frunk is still my course of action until we see if it can get thru the third winter season and maintain itself. Not overly hyped up about it and there is a work around just need to be around a 120V and a bit of a hassle that sure I would like to see disappear. Guess we did not start too late to learn this new stuff ;) .
There are a couple of theories about what is happening, and your situation fits.
1. Ford did not spec contactors that were sufficient for the power load.
2. The supplier did not build the contactors to spec or had some defective contactors.

Either way, the problem could manifest from day 1. If the problem did start soon, or immediately after you took delivery, that may point to a contactor that supplies power to the 12v system that was defective from the start.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having the problem. Hopefully they can fix it for you when you’re ready.

I thought you were supposed to leave it hooked up to a level 2 charger in super cold weather?

I'm still surprised if the contactors are only flipped during accidents or on/off. That's really confusing to me. I suppose regen also requires it on or does regen use the DCFC connectors? It just appears too simple to me that they stay on as long as the car is on. If that's the case then it becomes way more obvious that heat damage and a part under speced or mf defects to handle the current as the cause. If it truly is just MF defects though and QA isn't catching it, a software fix would be the only way to catch the failure in production. If it was a MF defect though it doesn't explain why the same people have had the problem multiple times unless somehow more current than expected is being drawn from those cars as if the battery itself was outputing more power than expected. If only someone had more data than rando speculating.

Was waiting for over a year and past two winter seasons I am ready any time. If it was defective contacts right out of the box the HVJB was recently replaced ready to try next winter.

Plugged into L2 24/7 still the 12V died.

Or perhaps the contactor failing is just the observable symptom and not the root cause?

The software update monitors the temp and flow of electricity through the contactors. They can tell if the contactors are bad or nearly bad based on their temperature and variations in the flow of electricity through them.
OK, that makes sense.

Actually they can't measure the temperature inside the contactor. They can measure the contact resistance by measuring the voltage on each side of the contactor. As the contactor overheats and is damaged, contact resistance increases.
