I personally think trading in would be a huge time sink just for an HVBJB. If you're really that concerned about it pay $1500 to replace it. That might be cheaper than the time investment and possible money loss on the trade.
And I have done way too many mods to my car now to trade it in for another. I am in it for the long haul.

@Electric Goat - so glad your failure occurred at home! And it is awesome Lee could help you. The third HVBJB is the charm!

You may not have to mess with the trim to get to a set of 12v terminals, I know my GTPE and Premium has a set of jump wires tucked behind an access port on the front bumper. Just to the left, and below the 'grill' area there is a pop out panel that looks like a tow hook cover. Push in the top right corner to open it and there are 2 12v leads to jump ther car.
All that does is open the frunk and only when the car is otherwise dead, unless they've changed things up since last I read about it.

Is that a reasonable estimate of the cost? If it is I would consider doing it because it's my wife and kids sharing the car and I could take a pass on the drama.
The part itself you can find online for about 800 and it's 7 hours of labor that Ford will pay a dealership under a warranty claim. So depending on your dealer labor rates between $1500 and 2k is reasonable.

This happened to me as well - I'm not a big car guy - just an environmentally charged person... picked up my very first EV (Route 1) which I was so excited about, less than a month ago. Due to crazy timing of the delivery, ended up having to drive the car from LA to Montana almost immediately. Yes I fast charged on the roadtrip, but out of necessity. But what's the point of having the car if charging it can break it?!

With less than 1000 miles clocked, had my first failure from Park City to SLC while going over the pass. Terrifying. Restarted 30 min later and got it to a dealer. After 6 hours, nobody could find an issue so I cautiously drove another 10 hours up to Montana. Second failure was Livingston to Bozeman, also over a pass! 1500 miles now. This time I did get an HVB alert. Pulled off to the shoulder, was able to restart the car back up after 30 min and drive to the dealer ... on a Saturday morning. It will likely be a week before the service dept can even take a look.

Im currently on a trip, now without a car, stranded!! And reading all of this, really terrified of having this car in the winter when this inevitably happens again.

Omg. What a disaster. Glad you are safe. Hopefully you get the car fixed with new HVB and this no longer is a worry

So sorry this happened to you! The good thing is that the revised part appears to be much more reliable and especially since you don't have a GT, should not give you any more problems.

You should go to the main thread on this whole defect, it has lots of great info. You should open a case with the Ford BEV team, they should reimburse you for your out of pocket expenses to get home and to have a rental while your car is being fixed. Also, if things take over 30 days, Ford generally will pay for your finance payment.

? I know exactly how you feel. You can try scheduling the recall software install at a local dealer. It should take them two hours or less.

I am becoming more certain that pretty much every GT with the original HVBJB is going to fail. Mine did last Thursday just short of 8,000 miles while driving on the freeway, not WOT and not a recent DCFC.

The dealer is telling me that the replacements for the GTs are backordered and they hope to get it within 4 weeks. This is a fundamental design failure on Ford's part and the customers of these expensive lottery tickets are paying the price. Opening a case with Ford seems to be a waste of time based on my experience.

I just hope that Ford figures this out. If the F-150's start failing like these, then Ford is in for a very rough time. As are their customers.

Hi Kristen! I can look into your Mach-E's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Mach-E's VIN?

I've made an appointment at my local dealer to replace the part on Sept 27th at my expense. I'll let everyone know how much this costs me. It's a bit disappointing that a 72k Ford has a faulty part and I have to eat it because it hasn't failed....yet. It's a March build 2022 GTPE.
