I thought you only needed to install a 240v outlet (not a special charger) to get the 22 mph charging at home. Do we really think its going to cost several thousand dollars for an electrician to install a 240 volt outlet (Serious question, I haven't ever had a need for an electrician to come out and do work). I do know Ford will offer a special home fast charger that will add 32 mph, and I could see that costing in the thousands.

From everything I’ve read, range anxiety is the biggest hurdle to convert ICE customers over to BEV’s.

According to the great work by buzznwood to get the specs and info, the GT will have the SR battery with 236 miles of range, in order to achieve the performance of 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds. Given that li-ion batteries charge quickest to 80%, I assume that the 47 miles in 10 minutes is based on that 80%. So it would take approx 40 minutes at a charging station to get 188.8 miles. Is that good enough?

To take this even further, I read this article, https://arstechnica.com/cars/2019/11/living-with-range-anxiety-two-weeks-with-the-jaguar-i-pace/ , which talks about home charging for the I-Pace. On a 120v outlet it took 12 hours to add 28 miles. On a 240v charger it took 4 hours to add 34 miles. Ford’s solution to this is offering a service to install a 240v charger to your home. I would only assume will cost a few thousand, but will be totally necessary in order to use this as an everyday driver.

A quick search shows average commuter 16 miles each way to work. 32 miles total. 28 miles with 1hours of charging on a 120v outlet isn’t going to cover that. God forbid you have to go to the grocery store or go out to dinner. A night out will not only eat into the miles used, it also will eat into charging time.

So is the solution stopping at a supercharger every day for 10 minutes to get the 47 miles you need daily? Or do you go to a supercharger once a week and spend 40 minutes there to get 189 miles added? Seems like ‘Range Anxiety’ is real. Filling an ICE vehicle takes a few minutes a week.

Do you all think Fords in-home solution, which adds to the cost of Mach E, resolves this anxiety? Or will people be willing to spend an hour a week at supercharger? I feel Ford will need to include the in-home 240v charger installation free as an incentive to get the masses to trade in ICE vehicles for the Mach E.
Above, using a 120, an I-Pace provides a fill rate of 2 1/3 mph. I have had 3 Leafs and I believe that its 120 fill rate is between 4 and 5 mph - much better. The Mach E says 3 mph. We get along fine with our Leafs since we don't take long trips in town. Why is the Mach E much lower than our Leaf?

glmus, I own the Tesla Model S for 6 years without the special charger which you can purchase from Amazon between $400-$700 now. The special charger will give you more mph but the 220v outlet works for me for around 20mi/hr. Unless you need to travel frquently during the day and need the 'fast charge" (30+ mph) at home. Understanding I charge at night and have the on/off peak meter starting at 8pm with off peak which costs me a lot less in my State of NC and have plenty of time for the miles I need overnight. To wire the 220v outlet, it depends on the garage you have, I had the electrician installed for me 6 years ago for $600. You should shop around. James

I had an electrician install a wall charger in my garage and it cost about $400 plus the charger itself. I went with a Tesla HPWC and had it hard wired with the ability up to 80A (I've got mine de-rated to 60A) . I'll just use a JDapter with it on the Mach-E and use it with me for road trips. That ensures I can do L2 charging from both J1772 chargers and Tesla destination chargers.

Thanks James. We added solar panels to our roof. I was told that almost filled our electrical box and box may need to be replaced/expanded - maybe $2k. I have a year plus to figure it out. My current Leaf tech says that the batteries love slow charges. The Mach EV seems to have everything I want. I think the Y is missing the blind spot light warning and doesn’t have the 360 degree view. Worse case, I could get a new Leaf in 4/21 when my lease runs out. Thanks again.

The time it takes is all based on the efficiency of the car. More efficient cars will charge faster at a given rate when measured in miles.

glmus, I agree with the slow charging which is recommended. I normally charge my Model S using 25-30amps instead of 40amp max. to protect the battery. After 6 years, I only lost about 5-7 miles of 205 range which is amazing. I hope Mach E battery can hold up like this. I reserved the Y at first but decided not to because of several features they don't have like interior layout, no front display and color. Tesla was not very good on their interior design and still is. Mach E seems the features I like. I'm also interested at the Audi e-tron Q4 which is coming up by the end of 2020.

Thanks, James. It sounds like we are on the same page. We could live with the 3 mph, but I do better with my Leaf. In fact, the Leaf has virtually all the features I like. 360 degree around view is very useful. The ePedal is my current favorite, but I think both the Y and Ford will have this feature also. One thing about the Ford is that I finally found all the features listed, but could not find adaptive cruise. After some research, it appears to be part of Co-Pilot360 2.0 + Co-Pilot 360 assist 2.0. As far as I know, the Bolt doesn't have adaptive cruise - crazy - one of my top features. My Leaf SL has the optional ProPilot Assist which is likely the same as Ford's. It is a first generation autodrive. I find it to be helpful, but I keep my hands on the wheel. Going around curves is really cool. The one problem with the Leaf is that the batteries are only air cooled. I have never had a problem, but given all the other EVs that have extra cooling, this gives the Ford an edge. It would be nice if they upgraded their batteries to the most up-to-date ones since they have quite a bit of time before they start production.

glmus, you said "you found all the features listed", can you share the list. I want to find out if Ford will do autopilot, autonomous driving and other features. One thing I like about Tesla vehicle is that they are very strong in software development. I consistently get over-the-air update from them like improvement on range, gps and needless to say autopilot and may other features. I hope Ford will do the same. This is the way they can sell more EVs.

This is what was sent to me (likely from a Ford person). I was able to find a lot at this site. If I saved what I printed out, I will send that later.

It's down a ways on the Mach-E website.

James, I just found this:

https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/conten...df/seo-pdfs/Mustang_Mach-E_Tech_Specs-SEO.pdf

When I printed it off I only got the Select, Premium, and First Edition columns (It may be due to the fact that I enlarge my screen text). But this is enough for me. The First Edition is sold out. So looking at the other 4, the Premium is shown and fits me, so I sent in a reservation yesterday. I hope this helps. It was part way down the earlier URL I sent you.

Thanks, glmus. This is what I'm looking for. I reserved the Premium (4 wheel dr.) as well. Looking forward to the test drive next summer.

What was your approximate reservation #? I'm curious as to how many they've accumulated so far.

Eight digits, starting with 1 ending with 4 - whatever that means. I don't know if I should post the exact number. I ordered rwd Premium standard range, we do mostly in city (Las Vegas) driving, max 60 miles a day, with Star White outside, black inside - wife's choices.
