I read an article this morning on the 2022 MME I thought it mentiined that parking thing was changing in the new 22 model somehow. I need to find that. Grrrr.
Yes. Ford will be removing the parking pawl from MY21. MY22 will use an electronic parking brake for rolling hold.

Stop using the parking brake in your perfectly flat garage?

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be able to, or that Ford shouldn't fix this, but if you know it's the parking brake just stop using it unless parking on an incline/decline.

I don't think I've used the parking brake once on my MME yet.
It's not the parking brake doing it. My FE had this happen anytime it was wet, and I never had the parking brake set in the garage, and It didn't engage on its own either.

Just going on what the OP said it was via post #6. On the other thread linked in that post there's also people claiming that "using a parking brake is always necessary". Some people here must have manual transmission MMEs ?

Just as a little preventative maintenance, after you wash your car, drive it a little. I have always done this to ensure that 1) the brakes are dry, 2) little bits of moisture are gone.

A short drive after washing and then apply your tire wet and let it sit for 20 minutes before driving again. I use a spray on tire dressing called "Cover All". Sorry a bit off topic but it made me think of that.

I don't think i've ever used the parking brake on this car. If it set itself while charging in my garage, i do not know. This sound is coming from the front.

Could be an issue with the parking pawl in the rear drive unit.
Thought about this when I was starting the car, but then the sound came from the front so I'm pretty sure its just brake pads sticking...realllly sticking, when they're wet.

And as a side note, i'm glad people are more trusting with car washes not taking their badging off. I have not brought mine through the wash. I live in a very wet environment, so there's no real driving around to be done after a wash. Everything is wet. But alas, this should be a normal use case for Ford

Yes, that's exactly what it is, so I really don't think you have to continue looking for a cause. Bring it in to the dealer and give them the TSB number referenced earlier in this thread. It's a known issue.

Do you have evidence to support this? Or are you just going by the general comments made by Donna Dickson in the Munro video?
She was also the woman quoted in the article I read. Isnt she like the new chief engineer for the Ford MME's?

Donna Dickinson Munro video was the first. I also believe the InsideEV team chatted with Darren Palmer about this as well. I'll have to go back through and review their vlogs.

But, coming from Donna, and then dozens of auto blogs reporting it, it seems to be as close to 100% confirmed as we're going to get. It was a mistake from the get go - Donna even insinuated this in the Munro video. Something along the lines of "it's what we knew how to do really well so we did it for the first launch."

This may be the case, but we haven’t seen any documentation indicating a manufacturing change yet. I’m sure it’s on the way. As it stands we were not informed of any substantive changes in the 2022 model other than colors.

I don't think it was a mistake. I think that people just took what she said and jumped to a conclusion that may not be correct. She said that they went with a parking pawl because it's what they knew and they wanted to get the MME design out there. She then said that their future BEVs won't have a parking pawl. I'm sure that will be a consideration in future designs, but that doesn't mean that they're changing the design in the MME for 2022. She also said a lot about reducing the number of coolant reservoirs and pumps to save weight, but again, she didn't say that would happen for the 2022 model year.

Every article I've seen that references these changes for 2022 just points to the Munro video and makes assumptions that Donna meant these changes would happen for the next model year, which she never said. In my opinion, these types of changes won't happen for the MME until there's a design refresh.

If you have other evidence that doesn't just reference the same Munro video, please do share. But until then, I don't think people should be stating these changes as fact. I'm going on record as predicting that people will claim that Ford "lied to them" when they receive their 2022 Mach-E and it still has a parking pawl.

For reference, here's the Munro video where Donna talks about the parking pawl at 11:16.

I can't find anything that's not referencing the Munro video yet, but when I do, I'll share. Be mindful that while changes are unlikely to be implemented in the early MY22 production units (starting in December), Ford could make a change at anytime throughout the year of production. I've seen it before with a few other models.
