4 is pretty significant when owner letters have not even gone out. This is BEFORE dealers should be even doing these updates on cars. Only those capable of doing them themselves or dealers willing to do it early, which not all have been.
Imagine how many of these Ford is getting themselves into when there are already 4 before the letters go out? As @Neil4Real documents, dealers are already all booked up on appointments, and instead of some kind of controlled, scheduled way to replace these parts, they're going to have owners randomly bringing their cars in or trying to get appointments.

Oh shit. So now we have to figure out...is the update bad or is it seeing how crapped-out our contactors are from before the update and immediately thinking "code red, get to a dealer!"
I honestly think we are just detecting all the damaged parts prior to full failure... which is the safe and 'proper' thing to do.

Not going to get into whether ford is right or wrong... but we needed a better way to identify failure before it was catastrophic... which is where we are now.

So...my guess is a lot more will quickly pop... then it'll die down and become quiet again

The real number is probably significantly higher than 4. I'm not doing any type of fix on my MME GT until I better understand what is going on. I will just drive my car a little gentler which sucks since this is exactly why I bought a GT.

Yeah, good question. How many?

I'm wondering if Ford might tone down the sensitivity of the software "fix" before they push it Over-the-Air to tens of thousands of electric Mustangs. If they don't, it could be a bloodbath.

It honestly needs to be a bloodbath. The part is bad. They need to be proactively fixing them, rather than waiting until people are stranded.

I am a little sad that my Premium SR AWD doesn't go up to 150kW charging. When I was looking on the website, it said that the Select is limited to 115 but that the Premium is 150kW charging. At the time I didn't think it was a limitation of the power pack and more the power electronics that was in the Select vs Premium.

That being said, I have seen my Premium SR AWD hit 119kW peak during charging a few weeks back. I haven't taken many road trips so the DCFC speed hasn't been an issue but that is changing this summer. I will see how much of a difference it makes I guess.

Has anyone with a Premium SR AWD seen above 120kW when DCFC?
My Select AWD has hit 125+kw charging before.

oh damn, really? That's awesome, it's nice to hear that there is potential to go above the 115kW that is mentioned by Ford.

Just went and grabbed our MME GT from my wife's work. I was able to drive it 30 miles to the dealership under reduced power. It had enough power to drive it at highway speeds and was safe. I concur with rcechinel that the software is most likely preventing catastrophic failure of the HVBJB. I hope it can be replaced with a functioning switch....I love the car. MTF....

Glad to hear it worked out to get your to the dealership. Sounds like the update is doing what it's supposed to -- get you somewhere safe without immediate loss of all power. I have no doubt I'll encounter it sooner or later given my style of driving unless Ford proactively replaces all HVBJB units first.

Whelp, I know they finished my car despite what the service advisor advised me, since they charged it fully last night. I bet this guy doesn't realize I know every time they open the door.

Time to get my car back and test the part out on the Grapevine.

Fingers crossed for you on this latest test! We all are hoping it goes without drama.

Mine already had this failure and had the HVBJB and BECM replaced, but I imagine they were replaced with original parts, not newly engineered parts.

I totally agree with you -- but honestly I would say don't drive your car on a road trip if you're not prepared to have this kind of experience. It was a little sub-optimal with my 7 and 4 year olds in the car.
Ok? Maybe don’t buy the car if we can’t drive it with security.

Maybe try a different soundtrack then the Blippi one, that may have jinxed you. Your young children might appreciate something by Nine Inch Nails perhaps? :p

Good luck on the drive!

I'm starting to think that maybe this is in fact a "controlled" hardware recall by design. With GT's getting timing priority on the alarm. So far from the few reports, it does seem that the alarm threshold is pretty low on updated cars.

Well - got an appointment on the 20th to get the software installed. A 1000 mi. road trip for work just popped up and no company car available. Figure limp mode is better than it dying completely, paying the gas in my Raptor (Ford - would like a build date for my Lightning please!)
