Good to know that we can use the FordPass to use these miles. Now we need to find an EA location to try out charging our car.

I only mentioned EvGo because we need to try this out sometime and we want it to be nearby that first time.

Of course you’re right, we will try to arrive home at a lesser SOC to fill up overnight; it’s just taking that first road trip that we need to do to dispense with our range anxiety. There’s a first time for every EV owner, right?

Thanks!
Since you have an EVGo app, you can set up a plug and charge for your vehicle through the EVGo app. It works really well. I use it all the time.

I have had EVs for over 2 years. I have charged at EA, ChargePoint, and FPL (Florida Power and Light). You may, or may not, need to try other brands like EVGo.
Depending on the state, it could be a lot cheaper, Rick. Like $0.25/ kWh in Illinois.

EVGo is 25 cents a kWh for DC fast charging at speeds comparable to EA?

ChargePoint can be expensive in my city. Electrify America is the most reliable out of the bunch in my area and they offer the most fast dc charge. 10% of the time some users have bad etiquette. Pay attention if a charge port is all in use or if half of the ports are out of service. Since our port is front driver side you may have to back in. Some chargers or in tight spots. One near me isn’t practical cause of the location of my port. Hyper and ultra chargers will be most in demand. EV space should be great in 5 years with faster charging and bigger batteries that can take 100% charge. Plus expanded network of chargers.
ChargePoint sells the hardware and provides the payment network, but the prices are all set by the locations that install them vs. ChargePoint setting prices.

The charges are all over the place. EA Rep told me if I want 25% off with the monthly pass I had to start the charge in the app. With Ford pass plug and play it says .48 kwhr but sometimes the charges are lower. Should I start the charge in EA app or get random charges from Ford Pass?
I have never had to pay for fast charging since ford gave me 250kwh
I have used that at EA fast chargers 2times. I was very pleased with the charge rate.

And before doing any of that, make sure she's registered a credit card first in the Wallet in Connected Services in her Ford.com account. Even if using the free credits, it still needs to be all set up and ready to charge the account normally.

Can’t find connected services in my FirdPass app.

Where is Connected Services in the FordPass app? My screen banner at the bottom says Home, Vehicle, Service, etc. I’d like to register a credit card but don’t see how to do that. Suggestions please.

I'm not sure you can get to Wallet from the FP app. But you can by logging into your account from Ford.com in a web browser. After logging in, click the person icon in the upper-right corner, then choose to <Yourname's> ACCOUNT. Then scroll down to WALLET AND TRANSACTIONS.

Found it and attached a credit card! Thanks!

No expiration date for my 250 kWh though - is that typical? And the nearest EA charger is at the Asheville Sam’s Club which reviewers say is free! Is THAT typical?

Mine shows no expiration date, either. When I got my car, it was supposed to expire in 2 years. I know I still consumed mine a couple months past that.

EA used to provide free charging at some locations on some holiday weekends. I haven’t seen that lately, and don’t know if that’s still a thing or not.

Also, if a particular location can’t communicate to the mothership for some reason, the billing can’t be processed, and you get a free session. I’m guessing this is probably it.

Those free holiday weekends ended more than a year ago. As you say, this is likely a temporary station problem.

Last September and into October they were doing widespread freebies while rolling out upgrades (following a lot of bad press from some big Labor Day outages). But again, special case, not normal.

Here’s a couple more tidbits for the first road trip:

Electrify America - currently the biggest non-Tesla network and pretty much the go-to for highway driving. Reliability is all over the place. Each unit has two plugs, but only one car can plug into each unit and charge. You can plug in from either side of the unit. The 350 and the 150 will pretty much charge your car at the same rate. Ford’s Plug and Charge works with these. After you use up your free 250kw, you can take advantage of EA’s pass+ cheaper rate for a month at a time if you’re actually road-tripping. If you do this, you HAVE TO activate the charger with the EA app BEFORE plugging in order to get the lower rate. If you don’t, Ford’s Plug and Charge will take over and you will be charged the higher “pass” rate.

EVGO - pretty much clustered around cities and not out there on the highway. As previously stated, you can set up plug and charge through their app. That’s nice, but, in my experience, they’re more expensive than Electrify America like the one in Daytona above, but it may be the better option when the nearby Electrify America location has three out of four units down.

ChargePoint - there are some slower DCFC units in out of the way places that will come in handy. There are also many level 2 free and non-free units around towns that are ChargePoint. Use their app to activate these.

PlugShare - you need this app to both find other chargers than the above and, more importantly to see what’s working and what’s not. Read the “check-in’s” to see if a planned charger location is actually functioning or not. Many have maintenance issues, including Electrify America.

You’ll have a blast and the learning curve is steep.

I was pretty sure that the free weekend thing ended at some point, but I don’t recall seeing anything official from EA.
