DC Fast Charging is always a disappointment.

Over the past year I. Haven’t gotten even close to the 150kW charging speed at any Supercharger in SC. I almost always get between 45-77. I few times I’ve gotten 120kW for the first minute but then it slows down significantly and it doesn’t matter what Supercharger I use. I have recently started programming the charger in the destination but that hasn’t made any difference. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar?

I assume you are talking about DCFC stations like EA, Charge Point, EVGO, etc.? I have a feeling as soon as you used the term Supercharger, people were thinking a Tesla Supercharger using the magic dock adapter.

Fortunately, 77 kW is not the limit for our cars when using the Tesla magic dock. Mach-Lee pulled 123 kW just this past weekend on his MME.

Wow. If the Tesla Superchargers max out around 77 kWh on a MME, that would take a long time to charge. On my 800 mile road trip last weekend, my M3P went from 10% to 95% in 40 minutes and that was at one of the "slower" 150 kWh Tesla V2 Superchargers.

my experience at EA is exactly the same as OP's. charging stops take ~1 hour to go from 20% to 80%, the highest speed for more than a few seconds is ~77kwh, most of the time is spent at 40 in the winter, 50 in the summer. i've plugged in from as low as 8%, never any difference, and i'm excluding all the times the station itself is broken and stuck at 30kwh

i don't do roadtrips often so i don't complain about it much, but the charge times are at least 2x what is advertised

We hit 160 kW at an EVgo 350kW fast charger in Massachusetts this afternoon, arriving at around 23% SoC and navigating via Ford's built on navigation. We used a magic dock at the Batavia, NY, Tesla superchargers, and peaked at 122 kW.

That’s how it should be, 160 kW peak on a 350 kW station, and 122 kW peak on a 150 kW or Tesla charger.

Other than the initial peak, either way most of the charge curve will be spent between 75 and 112 kW. Starts high and ends up 75-80kW from 52-80%.

we're 350A limited in the MME with MD and since we vary from ~320-388V we'll only see around 130kW on the top end. in my supercharger session in boardman last week i saw it ramp from ~100kW up to 128kW pretty early (~30% SOC start) and keep it above 100kW through until near 80% when it ramped down to 80kW.

i preconditioned on the way to the station (faked the nav with a colocated CCS station) so it was in pretty good shape to take whatever the charger could supply.

Not really that long. My SR battery usually charges between 60-80 kw at a steady state, and my 10-80% time is usually around 35-40 minutes.

If you have a standard range battery the short initial peak will be 120kw. The ER battery will get up to 160kw for a short time. Mine will settle in at about 120kw for a while after that peak.

Tesla chargers are limited to 350A, so 120kw will be about it on those chargers, no matter which battery you have.

I presume you were charging in South Carolina and the infrastructure really is bad here. There are some good pockets but in general all of the EA sites here are really bad. I have found the Circle K in Rock Hill good and the Shell Recharge lots (mainly in the upstate). They tend to hit the upper limit of what the MME can accept.

My mistake, I was using Supercharger as a general term. I haven’t used the Tesla Superchargers yet. She’ll Recharge maxes out at 70. EA is a crap shoot to say the least. At Sams in the Upstate one got 70, the other 45, and another 102, and the fourth was broken. All different vehicles and we all moved around to see which was better and each car was the same. It was my MME GTPE, VW, Audi, and a new Lucid. They all sucked. When I first bought the car in June 22 I would reliably get 150 traveling across the state at EA stations, that’s why I bought the car because I travel a lot for work. Now the same EA stations are lucky to get 50 and I can’t use it to travel for work now.

You are right. Some EA stations here have stalls giving out 20-30kW instead of 150kW. I always had to move to another stall when that happened. That added about 5 minutes to the pit stop.

My ER AWD Premium peak rate was 157kW when I picked the right stall.

I did several recharges this summer on chargers of 180kw and above, as well as on one Super Charger with MagicDock, and I always had a curve that looked like the one in this photo.
