I had the opportunity to rent the EV 6 over the New Years weekend (3 days) while visiting family in Houston. I just thought I would give my impressions vs. the MME. For background I've been driving my MME since July 2021. So, of course I'm much more familiar with it than the EV 6. But just some thoughts and comparisons.
Build Quality: Honestly Equal... Both cars feel extremely well built. Solid, no shakes or rattles. Good thunks of the doors, ect....
Door Handles: **I hate the EV 6 Door handles. They are similar to Tesla, but feels wider, which makes it more difficult. Our push button is WAY BETTER!!!
Acceleration: to be fair I believe I had a single motor car (EV6) and I drive the All Wheel MME. That being said the initial acceleration in the EV6 (even in sport mode) is really slow. For comparison, a few months back I drove the Lyriq single motor and was shocked when the sales guy said it was the single motor version. It took off a lot like my dual motor MME. Kia seems to limit the acceleration from the jump. It's a little better (in sport mode) when moving, ie. passing on the highway but sub par from the stand still.
Sound System: Ford crushes Kia in this one. I was truly unimpressed with Kia's stereo.
UI: Apples and Oranges?? They do similar things; but I guess I've gotten use to our gigantic screen and appreciate the ease of hitting the tiles and buttons. That being said the wife liked the UI in the Kia better, more elegantly designed and laid out screen. She feels like the MME screen is just this large screen thrown on to the dash. I did not take me long, I was able to easily move around Kia's screens and do what I what I needed to do.
Settings: This may not be fair to Kia, so someone please correct me as I did not dig into the menus. I generally dirve in 1PD and Unbridled. And it stays that way when I get back into the car. With the Kia, I had to constantly put the car into i-pedal mode as it defaulted to the 3rd level (left paddle shifter). And if memory serves, I had to switch the drive mode as well as it defaulted to whatever it was set at. Pending I could change this is the menu, I still prefer the way the MME does the settings.
Blind Spot Monitoring: The little circle cameras that pop up when you hit the blinker gives the Kia the win here.
Driving Dynamics: Although the Kia definitely felt slower off the blocks, it felt lighter and a little more nimble to drive. The turning radius also seemed impressive (making a U turn). **Suspension: When the Kia was in "Sport" mode it feels just like our MME. However, when it was not in sport mode, I could actually tell the difference in the suspension. Normal and Eco mode, the suspension was softer and absorbed the bumps nicer. As we all know, except for the GTPE our cars suspensions are firm no matter whisper, engage or Unbridled.
Lane Centering: Wow, the South Koreans can do lane centering. They don't have hands free so I guess the win goes to the MME here? But if just talking about around town lane centering the Kia/Hyundai is "Da Man". It's so subtle you may forget it is on, yet it is rock solid and no disengaging!!
Comfort: I've owned 3 Kias in my lifetime and have always been astounded with the level of their seat comfort. It always feels like they are gently hugging me. No difference with the EV 6. Both myself and my wife felt the seats were far superior to the MME. Heated and VENTILATED SEATS!!!! Ford, really the damn seats in our MME's are perforated. All you had to do was stick a freakin $2 fan in the seat and call it a day!!!! This one still sticks in my craw!!! It's hot and sticky in Atlanta in the summer and I miss my ventilated/cooled seats!!!
That being said, it I had to pick one to own........I think I'd go with the MME; but part of that is looks. I have always been a muscle car kind of guy (at least in my own head) and just prefer the look of the MME over the EV 6. Outside of that I'd really have to do some serious debating........
