I had the opportunity to rent the EV 6 over the New Years weekend (3 days) while visiting family in Houston. I just thought I would give my impressions vs. the MME. For background I've been driving my MME since July 2021. So, of course I'm much more familiar with it than the EV 6. But just some thoughts and comparisons.

Build Quality: Honestly Equal... Both cars feel extremely well built. Solid, no shakes or rattles. Good thunks of the doors, ect....

Door Handles: **I hate the EV 6 Door handles. They are similar to Tesla, but feels wider, which makes it more difficult. Our push button is WAY BETTER!!!

Acceleration: to be fair I believe I had a single motor car (EV6) and I drive the All Wheel MME. That being said the initial acceleration in the EV6 (even in sport mode) is really slow. For comparison, a few months back I drove the Lyriq single motor and was shocked when the sales guy said it was the single motor version. It took off a lot like my dual motor MME. Kia seems to limit the acceleration from the jump. It's a little better (in sport mode) when moving, ie. passing on the highway but sub par from the stand still.

Sound System: Ford crushes Kia in this one. I was truly unimpressed with Kia's stereo.

UI: Apples and Oranges?? They do similar things; but I guess I've gotten use to our gigantic screen and appreciate the ease of hitting the tiles and buttons. That being said the wife liked the UI in the Kia better, more elegantly designed and laid out screen. She feels like the MME screen is just this large screen thrown on to the dash. I did not take me long, I was able to easily move around Kia's screens and do what I what I needed to do.

Settings: This may not be fair to Kia, so someone please correct me as I did not dig into the menus. I generally dirve in 1PD and Unbridled. And it stays that way when I get back into the car. With the Kia, I had to constantly put the car into i-pedal mode as it defaulted to the 3rd level (left paddle shifter). And if memory serves, I had to switch the drive mode as well as it defaulted to whatever it was set at. Pending I could change this is the menu, I still prefer the way the MME does the settings.

Blind Spot Monitoring: The little circle cameras that pop up when you hit the blinker gives the Kia the win here.

Driving Dynamics: Although the Kia definitely felt slower off the blocks, it felt lighter and a little more nimble to drive. The turning radius also seemed impressive (making a U turn). **Suspension: When the Kia was in "Sport" mode it feels just like our MME. However, when it was not in sport mode, I could actually tell the difference in the suspension. Normal and Eco mode, the suspension was softer and absorbed the bumps nicer. As we all know, except for the GTPE our cars suspensions are firm no matter whisper, engage or Unbridled.

Lane Centering: Wow, the South Koreans can do lane centering. They don't have hands free so I guess the win goes to the MME here? But if just talking about around town lane centering the Kia/Hyundai is "Da Man". It's so subtle you may forget it is on, yet it is rock solid and no disengaging!!

Comfort: I've owned 3 Kias in my lifetime and have always been astounded with the level of their seat comfort. It always feels like they are gently hugging me. No difference with the EV 6. Both myself and my wife felt the seats were far superior to the MME. Heated and VENTILATED SEATS!!!! Ford, really the damn seats in our MME's are perforated. All you had to do was stick a freakin $2 fan in the seat and call it a day!!!! This one still sticks in my craw!!! It's hot and sticky in Atlanta in the summer and I miss my ventilated/cooled seats!!!

That being said, it I had to pick one to own........I think I'd go with the MME; but part of that is looks. I have always been a muscle car kind of guy (at least in my own head) and just prefer the look of the MME over the EV 6. Outside of that I'd really have to do some serious debating........

Nice review; thanks. Fun to read. I, too, really like the 'look' of the MME....actually more so than the day I bought it 11 months ago...odd for me.

We have a Volvo C40 that has more if an integrated UI screen....and I have come to love the big 'glued to the dashboard' MME UI, hehe. Its just utilitarian.

I think there is something about the shape of the Kia steering wheel that bothers me...but I need another coffee to confirm that thought. Im fussy about steerting wheel shape.

People's perceptions are so wild. This is why I don't trust "feel" type impressions.

The ev6 single motor cars do not have any adjustable suspension settings what so ever.

If that is true, that is amazing. Could it be strictly in my head? Hard to believe, as I did not really have any preconceived thoughts, just my impressions. Thanks for the info.

We rented the EV6 for three days and really liked it. We preferred the multiple screens and futuristic interior design of the Kia without it being spartan like a Tesla. Agree that the door handles on the Kia suck. Both the EV6 and MME are good-looking cars. My MME lease is up in 5 months and will probably go with whichever of the two offers a better lease at the time.

Thank you for the comparison. It was just in time for me. I test drove EV6 yesterday and MME today.
EV 6 has a lot of kit but MME has a character. I am bit confused between them

I, too, rented an EV6 while visting family over Christmas. For the most part I found the EV6 nice but kind of "ho-hum" compared to the Mach E. One thing I loved in the EV6, that is far superior to the Mach E, was the DC fast charging - 20-80% in under 20 minutes. Ford needs to work on that shortcoming.

I rented a couple different bottom of the line Kias (Soul, K5) over Thanksgiving and echo your lane centering comment except I spent most of the rural roads hands off.

I’ve had an AWD standard range Mach E for almost 3 years, and we added an EV 6 Wind to the garage over a year ago. I agree with much of your impressions. I think the build quality is excellent in both. I find the Mustang more fun to drive with its tighter suspension, but the Kia is tuned a bit softer and smoother. The Kia is our go to for road trips with its longer range, and fast charging at 180-230 kW is amazingly fast compared to 80-90kW in the Mach-E. I find the Kia on screen menu system a little easier to navigate than Fords, but both are good. I miss the wireless CarPlay when I’m in the Kia, but plugging a phone in doesn’t ruin my day. My daily commute involves interstate hwy thru a canyon and I love the Mach E cruise control. However, I can’t use the Kia cruise because it is over sensitive to curves and other vehicles, constantly slowing down. Just lost my Blue Cruise trial, but it was not available for most of my commute anyway due to the curving roads. My wife drives the Kia and she loves the styling, but I know others find it ugly. Overall we are very happy with both cars.

My short time in an EV 6 GT I like the car, but the interior felt a little cheap to me. If the MME didn’t exist I think the EV6 would be tempting.

Nice comparison! I’m not surprised at the first impressions, as it seems like a well rounded package. I just can’t get over the looks…

The more I see incremental improvements - especially charging curve - the more I feel the Mach-E feels “Gen 1”. No regrets, but it’s feeling outdated already.

The Mach E was a rushed half effort, imo. Ford cut a lot of cost and corners to get it to market.

Can you elaborate on what cost and corners were cut?

The thermal management of the battery is very poor. This leads to having to limit charge and discharge rates. They did not invest in either 2 speed reduction unit or high rpm motors, so even their GT product is limited to 124mph. The suspension/tires/traction control make their 0-60 times far worse than they otherwise could be, because they are not optimized for grip. Literally noone, anywhere, has gotten the advertised 3.5. In short, the Mach seems like a very nice car, but a very poor EV.

I have an EV6 GT-Line First Edition that I purchased after waiting endlessly for my GTPE.

I have 28,000 miles on this fabulous vehicle that was designed by Albert Biermann from the BMW “M” Group.

I finally got the GTPE - but from a dealer that “went south”. The HVBJB replacement was a disaster and the next failure resulted in a full buyback.

Two different cars from two different concepts. There are aspects from the GTPE that I miss but my preference rests with the Kia EV6 GT-L.
