For people who have never used FDRS it's understandable that you wouldn't know.

If you hover over the updates that are pending for the vehicle you'll see a tooltip, which is the black box that describes the update. In that box it gives a version number of the software to be updated. Unfortunately, it doesn't match the module version number. So when we look for version numbers we have to do some cross referencing.

So in other words, we can see what version you have installed, and we can see in a cross referenced way, the version the software wants to install. The numbers just don't match each other. Ford doesn't make it easy for us.

A fictional example would be:

Tooltip version G23423423-5.0 = Software Version DSF-34234-AB
I get it. I think. And a FDRS subscription is $925 per year? Sigh.

Correct and Correct

If you want to do them yourself you'll also need a laptop, battery supply and mongoose or other compatible OBDII adapter. I had the laptop but the battery supply and adapter I got cost a total of $1k on top of the $925.

Boy this is making my trip tomorrow sound more and more entertaining. Place your bets! 2021 Ext AWD going for 775 miles in 110 degree heat at 80mph limits with 13-14degree grades… I’ll be back with a “made it” or “one of us” post tomorrow night I’m sure. I *DID* install the recall myself via FDRS while it was offered along with my May updates etc.
Well, I have to say… “Made it”! Was getting quite worried with all these stories but no issue. One dcfc was in 111 degree heat per the car sensor. No issues.

Except that is just for sales. It is a way to just stop ADMs and make it an easier experience, if that is a reason people are picking Tesla, etc. would still use dealers for service.
I agree with this. Mach E buying experience (4+ hours in the dealer waiting to get into finance room to sign the papers) was a nightmare compared to Tesla.

I'm getting an error message from NHTSA saying I would need to contact ford for more info.
I see the same - I'm guessing NHTSA's site is having some issues.
