Let me know if you need any more help with your project. 😊
Appreciate it. I do have a question regarding the switch you added. As you said it only unlocks the gate when it in park. How so? Is it because the brown wire only energizes in park? but I could open the gate as I pressed the gate button, when it's in D with park brake applied. If the brown wire carried nothing in D then it wouldn't unlock the gate.

Not sure I follow what you are saying. In my car (2024 GTP) if I have the car on, gear selector in D, parking brake on and I go outside to the liftgate to open it, it just beeps. It will not open until the gear selector is in P. You are saying you can open your liftgate when the gear is in D? That did not happen with my '21 nor does it happen with my '24.

I pulled into the Target pickup line and forgot to take my MME out of Drive. As the delivery kid walked up, I kept hitting the button and nothing happened. Stupid me. I tried the display. Same. Then when I got out to try the hatch from outside the car, the car automatically went into Park. That is when I realized what I did. And then the button worked. Of course.

It is the way it should be!

That’s what I tried to say. My 22 select opens the gate no matter it in P or D. I just tested a few hours ago. Will do it again tomorrow to confirm.

I agree with you. It's for the safety but this morning as my wife drove off I stopped her and tried, it opened it. Don't know why, maybe it needs looked at.

Yes, that is not right. Maybe we can get a few others to check if they can open their liftgate with the outside button while the car is in Drive. I have a '21 Premium coming here tomorrow and will check it out.

Do you have foot moving sensor? if yes, google AI says you can't open the gate in D, but the one has no sensor can

My 2024 definitely will not open the liftgate when in Drive. I tried last night when you said you could open it in D. I know for a fact my 2021 could not do this because I tested that exact senecio when I made this mod. Maybe some do and some don't depending on a certain setting, I don't know.

There is no KtO sensor in the 2024. My 2024 does not open the liftgate when the car is in Drive and the parking brake is on, no matter which switch (screen, headlight cluster, outside switch) is depressed. It did open the liftgate the first time I got out of the car and pressed the outside switch, but when I got back to the driver's seat, the car switched to Park automatically. When I popped it back in Drive, the car made the three pairs of notes sound and would not open the liftgate. 🤔🐩

I should also note that my 2021 behaved exactly the same way as my 2024 described above did. 🤔🐩

Just did a few tests. Here is the deal, synic screen gate open icon grayed out in all modes except P, but fob worked for D and P.

Left it in D set parking brake, got out the car, heard some ding dong ding dong sound, opened the door got out, press the gate button it opened, went back inside it's in P! So as I thought it's in D it might be actual in p

When you have the car in D and you open the door, it automatically goes into P. While the door is open, you can put your foot on the brake, put the car in D, set the parking brake and then go to the back of the car and see if you can open the liftgate, That is what Steve and I did and as long as it was in D, the liftgate will not open.

That's what I did last night as my fist test, car was in D and parking brake set. walk around the car pushed the button then it unlock the gate. Completely differed from you two.

but as I said, once I opened the driver door while in D and parking brake set it went to P automatically. That explained why the gate could be opened.
I'll note that in the Target example above, the car did not have the emergency brake on. It was stopped, in Drive, just like I would have been at a stoplight.

I wanted to point that out in case the emergency brake has anything to do with changing how it functions. Based on what others have posted it doesn't seem like it does.

FYI my Rivian also puts the truck into Park when I open the driver's door. I can't drop the lift gate or open the tonneau unless it is in Park.
