Best Tire for the Mach E?

The best tire is dependent on your criteria. I wanted lots of performance and decent tread life. That led me to all-season 275 UHPs. That led me to 9-1/2” rims. My daily commute sucks down roughly 10%-12% of my battery (round trip), so I care not a bit about range. Everyone has their own criteria. ??

Exactly. Was going to mention the same thing. There is NO best tire for the Mach-E. It all depends on what you want in a tire. My top criteria is performance so that basically means I don't care about anything else, especially tread wear and range. I tried to make UHP All Season's work for my winter months and even though we don't get much snow where I live, it was limiting me to places I wanted to go. I used to own F-150 4WD's the last 40+ years and would use those for winter months but sold my last one when I bought the GTPE.

I've always run Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's the last 8 years on my cars. It's my favorite performance tire hands down. Next month I'm getting Michelin's replacement for the PS4S which is the Pilot Sport S5 on a new set of wheels. I decided to use my current set of wheels for Performance Winter tires and purchased Michelin's Pilot Alpin 5's. Had a chance to use them last weekend when we had a freak snowy day (April 13th) and they worked out extremely well.

Having had some more road time on my RX's on the freeway I gotta say they're actually pretty quiet. I 've been hunting the summer Ion Evo's and they're $100 a tire more than the Conti 06+'s which are my other target tire (and the fact they're readily available and 20+ more milage warrany is a huge plus for me, as if i didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have luck.)

I think it is possible that both are true. The GT spec tires are mst likely not as efficient as the Primacy A/S tires that came on the Premium model like yours and mine. And I think it likely also that the range reduction may not be as pronounced or as noticeable for people who do not do long range driving exclusively as I do. But my analysis has not changed. I’m still having to stop for power more often than I used to when I drive from one home to the other. I prefer not to stop.

You didn't change the tire size or rims, right? Just the tires, same size but different brand?

I've had Hankook Ion Evo AS SUV for about 8 months now. Really like them. Quieter and smoother than the factory Michelins.

I had installed red pucks on the jack points before taking the car in to Americas Tire/Discount Tire. I walked out to their shop and told the techs the jack points are in red and then watched to make sure they lifted it at the right spot. They had 4 guys working on it at the same time. the whole process took about 15 minutes (to replace all 4 tires).

Correct. Same size as original tires mounted on original OEM wheels

Based on recommendations here, I use these continental tires. They have been very very good, and although they don’t corner like the stock GTPE summer tires (which are a brutal ride) I find them to be an exceptional ride.

I’ll throw in my pick of the Pirelli P Zero A/S + 3 tires into the mix. I replaced the Pirelli P Zero + Elects that came with the car with these. The ride very smoothly, are quiet, and I lost no range. I should add I also got new wheels that should have reduced my range if anything. Tire Rack tested the A/S +3’s and they run neck and neck with the Pilot Sport All Seasons and the DWS 06 +. The Tyre Review website had the same findings. The only unknown for me at this point is how the tread life is going to play out.

I am surprised you are measuring a loss. New tires are known to have higher rolling resistance when compared to worn tires near the end of life. I wonder is that has anything to do with it...

Mike, believe me, I have wondered all the same things you are wondering. I didn’t expect range loss at all. Based on other reports on the forum, I expected to love them. Old tires are lighter and I expect have hardened up a bit, so new tires will inherently feel more “plush” and be heavier (more tread), and somewhat less efficient than the old ones at the end (maybe 1 or 2 percent?). But the original tires ran 48,000 miles in 2-1/2 years, and I have never had to stop to top up the battery as often as I do now, even when the car was brand new. I have changed nothing else on the car and the range loss was immediate after installing the new tires. In every other way I like them just fine.

Phones are getting smarter about this. iPhones have an optimized charging setting that charges to 80% immediately when plugged in and stops there. Then it resumes charging to 100% based on what time you start your day and unplug the phone, so that the SOC time spent at 100% is minimized.

Interesting - I've been using a similar approach to charging mt '22 GT. I have it set to charge to 85% which it reaches sometime overnight. When I wake up in the morning to a notification that charging is complete, I press the "Charge to 100%" button. When I'm ready to leave a few hours or so later, it has charged up to ninety-something percent, but since I am then driving it right away it doesn't spend as much time at that SOC than if I had set it to charge that high automatically.

Even if it doesn't make a large difference in battery life, even a small difference will be worth it as it's a routine that was easy to get used to.

Have you checked your HVB SoH? Mine has declined to 90.5%, which is a 10% loss in range. If yours has decreased similarly, it could explain some of it. And maybe the new tire thing explains the rest?

I see just about 92% SOH after 3 yrs/40k. (just a tidbit of datapoints) and my 7yr old FFE's battery shows 87% after being abused for 7yrs/100% charges/outsize in Phx all year and 65k on it.

Just get the carscanner app from the app store.
