Aināt Boeing I aināt Going!I used to fly the B-747 with a Captain that would knit while hurtling through the air 575 mph in a flying gas tank weighing well over 700,000 lbs. The flight engineer would usually be asleep.
Later, on the MD-11 and B-777, crosswords were all the thing. Or Sudoku. I usually did union work, or read.
Donāt you feel better about how people use Blue Cruise now.
Well now days itās more like, āIf itās Boeing, Iām not going.ā Most airline pilots of my generation trust their ability to spit more than Boeing doing the right thing. A sad state of affairs for one of the formerly great engineering companies.Aināt Boeing I aināt Going!
I hate to agree with you but I undWell now days itās more like, āIf itās Boeing, Iām not going.ā Most airline pilots of my generation trust their ability to spit more than Boeing doing the right thing. A sad state of affairs for one of the formerly great engineering companies.
That's exactly right. Until BlueCruise is a better driver than I am, it will always be more stressful.1) It's more stressful to watch what it's doing than it is to do it myself
Karaoke of courseB) led me to a question for the heavy BC-use crowd: What do you do while BlueCruise is on?
But, more seriously and dangerously important, Iām sure I *have* fallen asleep in other cars for a second or two in the past while driving and in motion. So now Iām paranoid. I blow cold air in my face, blast the radio, sing, and try all sorts of tricks. I carry a Presso XI Nespresso machine and caffeine pills. Iām also eager and willing to pull over for a nap. I also usually have my wife beside me, so can switch drivers. But, I still worry.Yesterday I had a small nap at a long red light. I was hands free, but not BC hands free. Surprised myself a little bit, in spite of my long history of falling asleep in the driverās seat. The scariest ever was in my 1985 RX7, waking up and a huge truck was right in front of me with the brake lights on! I slammed on the brakes and grabbed the wheel in a panic. I thought I was going to die. But gradually I came to the realization that I had stopped at a rest stop for a nap, and the semi pulling in front of me had woken me up. At least I was fully awake for the rest of the trip.
You might want to get checked for sleep apnea. But, more seriously and dangerously important, Iām sure I *have* fallen asleep in other cars for a second or two in the past while driving and in motion. I wonder if Bluecruise Handsfree and Bluecruise non-hands-free (which I know we donāt call Bluecruise here but I forget what we call it here ā the blue circlish thing around the car icon but without the blue background and without the Hands Free symbol) make me safer about falling asleep, or not. I tried closing my eyes on an empty road while my passenger operated the steering wheel and the eye-watching thing that beeps when your eyes close is a good safety feature for people like me. So, Iām thinking Iām slightly better off.
The ride in traffic varies a LOT depending on your drive mode and follow distances. I am always in Whisper and notice follow distance 3 is a lot gentler than 2; Iāve also read here that Unbridled is a lot rougher on the accel/decel than other modes. It is useful for finishing a two handed food item.
Maybe I'm just contrary, but I find stop and go traffic to be the worst use case. It can't look 3-4 cars up and predict what they'll do, and it just jumps off the line and slams on the brakes as it hits following distance set points. Almost enough to make me car sick, certainly enough to slosh my coffee around.

Have you heard ANYTHING about Boeing in the last couple years?Aināt Boeing I aināt Going!
Iāve tried whisper and I still donāt really like it in stop ān go traffic. Still just a little too jerky and either too slow or too aggressive in response, depending. I use it some, but it definitely isnāt as smooth as I am - could be better, for sure.Try Whisper...it takes the edge off
