I have been having this problem since my dealer did all the updates when I was stuck at 1.7.1.

I have a JuiceBox 40 and it will only run for 20-25 min and then shut down. This is every single time I charge. The handle is very warm. I called Enel-X tech support. He looked at the logs for the charger and said the car was sending a shutdown request.

Before I take it in to Ford, I figured I would try a few things.

I used the Ford supplied EVSE. It worked fine, but it is only at 32 Amps.

Then I went to the local Electrify America to try a DCFC charge. I tried four times at three different stations. It would link to the car, and say it was going to initialize, but then it would shut down. Inside the car was an error message and to refer to the manual. I powered up the car, and the manual reference was not all that informative. So I figured I would try it one more time. This time is worked just fine. The only thing that was different was that the car was powered on. I charged from 54% to 94% in 40 min.

I thought that was interesting so I went home (15 min drive) and tried the JuiceBox again with the car powered down. I set the car to charge to 100% and to start immediately. It ran for 18 min and shut down with an error message to the Ford Pass app. I unplugged it for 2 hours and then tried it again, except I powered up the car first. The charge ran for 44 min and shut down normally at 100%.

When I plug in with the car powered down, I do not hear any pumps running like it used to. With the car powered up, I can hear the pumps turn on. Just something I noticed.

I am going to try this a few more times, but if it is repeatable, we have something to report to Ford.

If a few of you could try this, I would appreciate it.

I'll give it a try, too. With the other thread pointing out that cooling is taking place, I think you might be on to something. I have no idea if the pumps ran previously, but it seems like a good lead.

Yes sounds like the charge port is overheating, that will shut down charging. Replace it.

Pumps may not run right away with charging, only once the charger (SOBDM) get warm or if the battery needs heating or cooling. Typically they start within 10 minutes on my car.

I saw a message about not charging the battery after a long drive, so I tried letting the car sit overnight before plugging in. I still got the flashing red ring and the car stopped charging after an hour or so.

I just tested this, and I still got a charge fault. Started at 69% and it stopped at 78%.

I'm going to contact my dealer tomorrow and hopefully get to "we need to replace your charge port" without a bunch of hassle.

Mine was close to an hour, too. It started charging at 6:59, and it faulted at 8:09.

Yesterday, it charged for about 29 minutes and stopped.

Today it charged for 55 min, used just under 9 kWh of power, reached the 90% limit and stopped normally.

I have no idea what is going on, but it looks like a failing charge port on the Mach-E

Ford has assigned a case # and said I will be contacted within a few days.

I will let you know what I am told.

so far so good, it has been 3h charging and everything seems fine, no heat at all on the plug and port! It was corosion inside the charge port so they had to replace it.

Corrosion makes sense, but I had not heard anyone say that was the diagnosis. I did a quick search, and it seems to happen to Tesla - https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/charge-port-cable-connector-cleaning.49197/.

I just cleaned mine with some contact cleaner, and I'm going to drive it so I can recharge. I wouldn't say it was filthy, but you can see from the q-tips that it was dirty. It might have been corrosion somewhere else in the port, but I figured this was easy enough to try.

Just got my car back from dealer who FINALLY was able to complete the Bluescruise update (after fixing (1.7.1 and multiple attempts at BC). I have BC but scheduled charges are shutting down. I tried creating new charge schedule, no dice. I use a home Chagepoint that is wired. About to go on multi state trip…hoping I don’t get stuck unable to DC charge. I must say after windshield recall, windshield noise issues, stuck 1.7.1, and many many attempts of getting blues cruise, if this is a new ongoing issue I’ve just about had it:-((

Ford Tech called me. We went over what the symptoms were with my car.

He said it does not look like a problem with the JuiceBox EVSE and that I should make an appointment with my dealer to have the charge port inspected.

The only question I had that was not really answered was why this started immediately after all the software updates were installed.

I have the same contact cleaner and used it on both the car charger port and the EVSE. Did not help mine at all.

I will call the dealership next week.
