So the two similar cars above are off by 9 miles? And one charges twice as fast and has a heat pump? I don’t see this as advantageous to MME.
You need to have the faster-charging infostructure in place for that to make a difference. In the State where I live there is only one DC fast over 62.5kWH, One in SD, and none in ND. A couple in WI and when you get to IL & IA there are a fair amount.

There is a cold-weather range test of the two cars out there they finished near identical. I know everyone says heat pump is huge but real-world testing says it makes very little difference

Maybe it's more effective on short trips.

Here are the two tests they are not quite identical tests MME was at -5C (23F) EV6 was 1C (34F)

Kia EV6 77.4kWH @75mph 170miles
MME (2021) 88kWH @75mph 163Miles
BMW I4 79.4kWH @75mph 177 miles
BMW iX 111.5kWH @75mph 227 miles (wow)

https://insideevs.com/news/567060/bmw-ix-xdrive50-range-cold/

I have personally gotten better results with my MME. My car is running newer software and has 18" winter tires

The other opinion part that I will say is that I do actually like the looks of the EV6 and if I did not already own a MME it would get serious consideration. I would wait for the performance version of the EV6 due this fall 576hp

Wind AWD (19") range test - 223 miles at 3 mi/kWh going 70mph. This is pretty piss poor.

Makes me want to re-consider even getting one because the 20" GT-Line would have an even worse range. I thought the Wind AWD would get 250-ish or maybe 260 but this is terrible.

I was on one the EV6 forums and many are saying it's not as effective as claimed. The MME is the opposite and typically performs better that rated. Still the fast charging is a huge bennifit but only if you travel alot. Also the lower weight probably makes the EV6 more nimble.

This isn't the guy or place where they usually do their test. They kept pulling over to switch drivers, the first driver was going over 70 for a while, it was windy, different elevations than the tests they normally run.. and they had an extra 200+ lb passenger. Its a good frame of reference for real world range, but I don't think its going to be super accurate comparison to the other tests they've ran.

It's just disappointing because it's the 19" wheels which I was expecting 250-260 miles at least. The 20" wheels will take a range hit like the Ioniq 5.

3 mi/kWh is terrible anyway you spin it. See other results:

https://insideevs.com/reviews/443791/ev-range-test-results/

The Ioniq 5 and EV6 in multiple tests are hitting the 2.7-3.1 mi/kWh range and I've personally know of a Limited AWD owner here in balmy Florida who said his efficiency is 2.6-3.1 mi/kWh driving 150 miles a day on the highway.

The Mach-E personally has been around 3.3 mi/kWh here in Florida and the Inside EV tests almost match my own data.

I'd love to see either of the Ioniq 5 or EV6 AWD hit 3.3 mi/kWh in ANY highway test.

I don't know if Ioniq or EV6 is going to hit that great numbers. It might just be the tradeoff of faster charging or more efficient / more range.

I'd guess a lot of people won't see a big impact from either, and charge at home a lot and not really care.

And if you do road trip - do you want more frequent short stops or less frequent longer stops? Might not be a huge difference in many cases.

After a week of driving to/from work in my premium AWD SR, I can share that I’m pretty consistently getting 3.3-3.5 mi/kWh right now. My work commute is 21 miles, 4 mi of winding 45 mph country roads and 17 mi on I-4. I’d say about half I’m going 75-85 mph and other half is 35-45 in traffic. In the mornings when the temperature is in the 50s with heat on low I’m getting 3.3. At night, I’m getting 3.5. I’ve also been told I’m not a gentle driver. Even on Sunday morning (first day I really got zero I-4 traffic) I got to 106 mph and never went under 80 mph I still was at 3.2.

I‘m sure time will tell with Ioniq 5 or EV6.

Same for me and my Wife. We have become addicted to wireless CarPlay!! The EV6 still interests me and I would like to do a test drive. I doubt if our local Kia dealer has one but I am going to check and see if they do?
If you find one let me know as I’d be intrigued to see the difference in the drive.

Man I'd love to get 3+ mi/kWh! I probably average 2.5-2.9 most of the time in my ID.4. It's a RWD, Pro-S with gradient package (20 inch rims). I'm in SoCal so it's been like.. between 30-65 most days. Most of my driving is either with the cruise set at 67, 73, or 77 depending on which road I'm on. I rarely touch the heat or ac these past few months. Not great from an efficiency standpoint. That's kinda what pushed me to the Mach-e from the Ioniq 5...but then when I saw the EV6 was getting about the same range as the Mach-E for the same price I took notice of that. I guess it will just come down to me driving both which I've yet to do.

Does this have a big impact? Is it the electric bill? I'd think if you are buying a 50k car then what is the scope of the extra electricity costs? Or do you drive 250 miles a day and this becomes a deal breaker? Just trying to understand how this becomes an impact to people in this situation.

I had an ID.4 RWD Pro with 19” wheels and I was getting 3 mi/kWh at highway speeds but I expected it because of the boxy shape.

My Mach-E RWD was noticeable more efficient but still far less efficient than a Model Y. The Orlando-Daytona stretch I’d get 3.3 on the Mach-E going from 70-75mph and 3.6 with 20” inductions on the 2021 Model Y and 3.9 with 19” on a 2022 Model Y. Same speeds. Colder weather for the Y too. All measured using TeslaFi and FordPass Journey data.

The Extended Range battery is so much bigger than the competitors you get an extra 20-30 miles. The poor efficiency of the EV6 is disturbing. I wanted an EV with the same range and efficiency of the Mach-E but I think it just misses. Maybe there will be better test results but with a smaller battery pack than the Mach-E it needs to Tesla efficient to compensate. No even close. Closer to ID.4/Ioniq 5.

My wife was at a Kia dealership looking at a Niro EV when I spotted the EV6. Hot damn, it looks sexy, and no ADM. Didn't take it for a ride, but got home and started checking it out since I could turn a profit on my MME if I decided I liked the EV6 better ... I dunno. I feel like resale will be less, and even though it's a small thing, it doesn't come with wireless Android Auto or Carplay. WTF?? Yeah, you can buy a dongle, but even reading experiences with those, it's just not seamless at all. I don't want to go back to having to dig out my phone to plug it in when wireless AA just seems like a given for a high-tech, expensive car. What a bizarre and unnecessary omission.

I do still love my MME, but honestly, the styling of the EV6 is more my bag. Just wondering what other tech niceties have been left out of it that I'd miss.

Bluecruise hands-free driving and (good) non-divided highway lane assist.

To be fair, my MME doesn't even have the option for BC yet, and even when it does become available, it's not something I am going to pay for.

MME is still probably the better car. Maybe I can convince the wife to pony up a little more for the EV6 over the Niro EV ...
