Just got my MME last week and it obviously came with the ford mobile charger. I’ve been using it and it seems fine with no bells or whistles.

I purchased a juicebox 40 from Costco for $399 (after $100 off). Haven’t opened yet.

Do I stick with the Ford Mobile Charger for home charging?

Use the Juicebox and put the Ford Mobile Charger in my trunk for road beads?

Or look at other home options?

Note: I have a Nema 14-50 outlet so not looking for hardwired options.

Thanks in advance!

The JuiceBox 40 you bought will have a 20' cord, whereas the ones sold in non-big box stores are 25'.

The JuiceBox app is currently crappy. It was good, they broke it a year ago, and they say a new one is coming this week. If you don't care about intelligent features, it's probably fine.

Many utilities give rebates, some restrict brand and model.

I would mount the Juice Box and use it for daily charging, and save the Ford cable for use on road trips. The Ford cable is also handy if you ever have issues with the juice box.

If you read the threads the Ford Mobile may be unreliable over time. Some have have used it continuously with no issues but for many it has crapped out over time. Mine sits in my trunk and has only been used once in two years to test it. If I get another Mach I will not purchase a mobile charger.

If not the juicebox due to the crappiness of the app, what is the best option that is not going to break the bank?

ChargePoint - but there are many good options out there. Next go round, unless things change, I will get a dumb EVSE. Turns out all I do is plug in and charge as needed. We have flat rates so no programming needed. Plus most programming can be done in the car. Some areas; however, have complex rate structure or perhaps you might want to track info so a smart unit would be preferred. I would recommend checking with your local utility as sometimes they offer rebates on specific brands.

thanks. my utility is giving me 50% off up to $700 for the cost of the charger and installation. So I have some room to play. My install of the nema 14-50 from my breaker cost ~$900.

Do you like the chargepoint? that is one i was considering, but was $150 more than the juicebox

This is great, so what is a good "dumb" EVSE?

People on here always recommend getting the discount/rebate from your utility company, but if the total cost (after rebate) of a smart charger is more than a "dumb" EVSE, then just get the "dumb" one. Most people just plug in and charge, no app necessary.

I have two of the Grizzl-e and they've been great for 3+ years. One is mounted outdoors and has stood up very well to weather.

if you just need the home charger to provide reliable charging without any other features the juicebox will work fine. the "smart" features of other chargers on the market can range from just giving you visibility into what the charger is doing to active charge management with solar integration and integration into a home automation system.

the $399 you got for the juicebox combined with the discount gets you down into the range of a very good dumb EVSE so it would seem you're in good shape with it.

giving recommendations without knowing more about what you want beyond basic charging is stabbing in the dark.
