You must have a different definition of “flawlessly” than most of us lol.
While both those feature are perfectly usable they are far from flawless.

It says improved Setup not improved usability.

Back to the update, what did ford manage to break with this update? Haha

Yeah i never have or had an issue with carplay not connecting, yes once it in awhile it hiccups but connects soon after. PAAK is the same, i always bring my fob though, but the times i go out to the car with only the phone it works. Id say mine works 99% of the time. Iphone 12 max. Job 1 Build date June 2021.

The issue could very well be on the phone (iOS) side, but I can easily replicate PAAK working pretty reliably with CarPlay deactivated and immediately becoming unreliable when CarPlay is activated. I have the iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 15.6.1 (latest). Issue also occurs with iPhone SE v3 running iOS 16 beta. I even wiped the 12 Pro and setup as a new phone with Ford Pass being the only non-stock app installed and no go.

which phone/OS are you running?
Iphone 12 Pro max, 15.6.1 currently.

I am in 20 now (Android) and PaaK works just as reliability as before. I usually take my phone out of my pocket and hold it in the hand that presses the door button. Sometimes it takes a few presses. Anyway, 20 didn't do anything for me. No change.

BTW - I only use PaaK and have never been stranded. If I have a "no key detected" after opening the door, usually just turning Bluetooth off and on takes care of it. If that doesn't work, I remote start the car with FP and then it detects the key. All that is relatively quick and a small price to pay so I don't have to carry a FOB.

PAAK has been fine for me once I got it set up initially. I do turn BT off or force stop FordPass when I am home so my car doesn't click every time I walk by.... my office is right next to garage and I am in and out of my garage shop many times a day....

My Fob has been wrapped in foil and hidden inside the car for a year.... once taken out once I think for valet parking, and once to leave at a tire place for a flat repair.

so..... FordPass enhancements are pretty meaningless for me. The only thing I'd like is better updating of the battery state of charge. Even that is not important since there is a workaround (lock/unlock doors to establish connection, and then swipe for update).

Keeping a FOB handy is a good idea. I keep one wrapped in foil in my laptop bag, that I always take with me when going out of town. In town I can call my wife, but out of town I am on my own. So if I need to give the car to a valet, or I get a SSN (will it ever happen to me?), I have the FOB because of course I won't hand my phone to a valet or a Ford tech.

So many people blame Ford but a large percentage of PaaK failures are phone caused. Bluetooth isn't the most reliable technology. Other car companies attempting PaaK are experiencing similar issues.
Yep, it's all BT issues. PAAK should be moving to Ultra Wideband, Hyundai is supposed to be doing that and using Apple CarKey at some point.

well I have been waiting for Ford to fix the PAAK issue where my wife's phone won't even download the key. They said 4.19 on IOS should have fixed it. It did not fix it and neither did 4.20. I wonder when they will figure out why it won't work. Going on a month now.

I was wondering if/why people bring a key fob when there’s also the backup passcode functionality. But I hadn’t considered valet and service scenarios. That makes sense.

Yeah, it is all about the case when someone besides you needs to drive the car. You don't want to give someone else the code to start the car, and you don't want to give them your phone. So it is FOB time.

Yeah, totally makes sense. Time to look into faraday bags :)

Just remember that to get PaaK over UWB, you'll need to buy a new car.

Thanks. Seems like a no-brainer for $10. Does it seem reliable from your experience (car never detects the key)?
Never seems to detect it when PAAK doesn't work ?

I tested it when I first got it. Moved it all around the front dash area of the car to see if it would start.

Nice! And thanks for the recommendation! I'm going to grab one.

I was hopeful about this update, since it seemed specifically targeted at the problem, but the PAAK setup still won't connect to the car after downloading the key. :(
