Went out to the car this evening with key in a faraday bag, couldn’t start the car, nothing. Opened and closed the door , tried 5 times, made sure FP was open. PAAK was useless. I could have entered passcode to start the car but taking key out of the pouch was easier.

I stopped somewhere on the way home and put key back in pouch . Went into the store, came out and PAAK worked fine.

will try again tomorrow.
Try this:
1. Use the door keypad and get in the car.
2. Try starting the car - no key found
3. Turn Bluetooth off for 2 seconds and turn back on. Wait 15 seconds or so for the car to connect. Start car - no key found.
4. Remote start the car using FP. Press start button. Car starts.

Sometimes the car will start prior to step 4, but it always starts if I do step 4. Always. @DevSecOps has also found using FP to roll all the windows down does the same thing as remote start. I like remote start because it heats/cools the cabin while you are sitting there.

Went out to car this morning, no issues, door was unlocked in garage as it always is and car started up using PAAK

coming home , could not unlock door just by pushing button, unlocked the car using the door keypad but was able to start the car using PAAK, no issue. I assume PAAK should enable you to unlock door without having to use keypad.

Yes it should definitely unlock the door for you automatically (just by standing near the door). Sometimes this can take 5+ seconds. Sometimes just grabbing your phone and unlocking it does the trick faster. For me it always manages to work but sometimes not on the first door button press.

Yeah, I have that app installed on my phone but the data is so delayed sometimes that it isn't useful. I'll look at it and it will show me the status for an hour ago, so I click on it and tell it to refresh, it says it will in 5 seconds. Then when I next check it, it shows me the status from 2 hours ago. I love the app it just isn't useful in real time.
What is the widget/app called that members have used to customize a dashboard?

I was wondering if/why people bring a key fob when there’s also the backup passcode functionality. But I hadn’t considered valet and service scenarios. That makes sense.

I still bring a FOB wrapped and so far, only had 1 time where PaaK didn't work (about 4 months ownership). I need to setup the backup passcode still since I set one up earlier, but the passcode was so, long, confusing, I'd never remember it :)

After reading all of this why would anyone use PAAK. I have been carrying a car key for 52 years, not that big a deal. Always works

so of course I tried PAAK 2 days ago after driving the MME for over 8 months. Why, because I like gadgets and thought I would give it a try. I am still carrying the key for the moment. faraday bag is on the way.

downloaded right away, no problem. I phone 12, FP 4.2

now my seats don’t go back to my selection and CarPlay seems to be hit or miss, mostly miss, although that was with also carrying the key.

last night my wife was shopping (she had the key) and I was waiting in the parking lot, locked door and then tried to open, phone in my pocket, and it wouldn’t open. (I could have used keypad on door but didn’t) . When she got back from the store, door (key in pocketbook ) opened right away.

the only benefit I see is that now my phone in Fordpass shows a frunk and trunk button that works. I didn’t have that before.

i am thinking of deleting PAAK so my seat selection and CarPlay work again but don’t want to lose the frunk and trunk button in FP

I assume when the key is out of the faraday bag, there is a chance for someone to steal the unlock/start codes from your key. See so many YT videos on that nowadays since the keys are always transmitting. That was my main reason for using PaaK and keeping the FOB always in a bag.

Of course, people can just carjack instead, but some thieves like the follow you home, and just drive your car away method (we know someone who had their car stolen like this).

We have had a few cars hijacked here

People don’t lock the car and some leave their keys in the car ,

All the ones stolen have been those scenarios

Updated Phone as a Key setup to reduce intermittent failures.

1661458024607-png.webp

This seems to have had the opposite effect for me.

I updated to 4.20.0 on 8/22 on my Android..... and the last several days PAAK has been flaky as hell. It looks like the BT connection is not picking up as I approach half the time, and dropping out and failing to reconnect while I am driving.

Its gotten much worse over the last two days.

I have turned my phone off/on in hopes of reset, but no effect.

What's my next step? anything I can reset in the MME that might help?

I have Sync4 auto-update turned off, and kept my PowerUp at v 2.6.0, so nothing has changed inside the MME as far as I know.

I turned off my welcome lights on 9/22/22 due to frequent "System Off to Save Battery" messages when I got in to start the car. Since then, I don't get the SOTSB message AND my car recognizes my phone quicker. Now I just walk up and touch the circle to get in, seems like it is seeing my phone at about 6-8 feet from the car. Weird. Just got the latest update last night, going to turn back on the welcome lights and see if they fixed the drain.

Note: I am on a Samsung Note 10 with Android 12 latest release.

You might want to consider reconditioning your 12V battery.

unless you walk by your car about 1000 times a day, and your HV->LV system is not working correctly, welcome lights probably are not the source of any significant energy drain.

I always 50% of time now get the 'key not detected" starting the car when clearly its connected to BT (how I opened door) Phone on hand or lap. I have to put phone on the wireless charger tray.

Same here, key not detected yet sometimes the car starts and I can drive away. Makes no sense, not that I expect it to.

Ah yes, the magic charging tray. That is what I do also. I hold the phone in the same hand I use to press the door button, and then drop it on the magic charging tray prior to starting the car. It seems to be pretty reliable when I do that.
