I'm in the NY area and had the car sitting outside in direct sun for a few hours.

Ironically, my external temp said exactly 107 when I turned the car on too... wonder if it's a max setting?

I've got black interior, so I remote started the car (not plugged in) to pump some AC.... I can say, the damn thing sounded like an airplane - never heard the car so loud ever!

Even though it wasn't plugged in, i'm curious if it was doing additional cooling based on how loud it was
Yes, that's exactly what it was doing. If you looked at the front, you likely would have seen the vents open also.

How does the car cool the HVB? Is there a fan somewhere? Does it cool fluid and run that through the channels in the battery?

the battery is liquid cooled. The radiator and fan are in the front of the car behind the louvers. There are posts in the forum showing all the plumbing under the frunk tub.

107 is not the maximum. Last summer in Texas, I saw 113 when the actual temp was 97.

Are you talking about this temp reading?

The sensor for that display is located under the hood, below the tub in the flow of the air coming from the radiator.
My experience from last summer in Phoenix is that the displayed value on that screen is typically +10F higher than ambient. Even in my garage. During the fall/winter/spring months it seems to match ambient much better.

So here’s my dilemma. Since moving Maggie and Ellie to the desert 9 days ago, I’ve seen the message a half dozen times. My challenge is the garage at our new place lacks proper ventilation (something I will likely be fixing with an A/C unit for the garage). Plugging in to cool the battery is only going to exacerbate the heat problem. When this triggers the driveway is not really any cooler sitting in the midday sun. To say nothing of baking dust into the paint. My only recourse thus far is to limit day time driving. Did not properly anticipate this condition.

Hoping I’m not doing lasting damage to my battery.
Your best bet is to schedule charging for the middle of the night.

Don't limit day time driving. Drive the car to suit your needs, not the other way around. It's just a car, and it's built to survive dusty hot conditions.

107 is not the maximum. Last summer in Texas, I saw 113 when the actual temp was 97.
Pretty sure we saw 130F last summer... I'd rather not experience what the actual maximum is. ?

Not sure if other people notice, but every time I start the car it sounds like a fish tank under my feet. You can actually hear the liquid circulating through the battery. It's reminds me of doing filter changes on a fluval.

I hear that every so often from the HVAC (from behind the dashboard). I don't think my hearing's good enough to notice it from the battery loop, or at least I haven't heard it so far.

Charging schedule only applies to L1 and L2.
DCFC will cool the battery while charging for sure.
Can anyone read the real time battery temperature when receiving this message? Can you read real time battery temperature while on the charger?

There’s actually more to it. The battery coolant loop is integrated into the air conditioning refrigerant loop as well. So if it can’t cool with ambient air, it will also use the A/C. Most EV’s do this.
