I've had the car for two weeks. I fast-charged it three times in that time; the first time (50 kw charger) to try it out, the second time (350 kw charger - only got 60+ kw out of it - very disappointed) to try out the free charging at Electrify America, and the last time (50 kw charger again) because it was getting low (26%) and I don't have an EVSE at home yet (having one hardwired in on June 26).

The rest of the time I've used the 120V portable charger that came with the car to add about 30-35 miles a night, which is more than enough to cover my daily commute. I've used more "juice" tooling around town and going to my son's Spring League Hockey games around the metro area than driving to work.

I'm taking my first small-scale road trip at the beginning of next week and am looking forward to seeing how that goes.

I originally charged my 23 GTPE daily and to 80%-90%. I WFH, so my mileage is normally on the weekends etc.

I’ve now started to allow it to drop down to 20%-30% prior to charging, but sometimes I get hit with unexpected trips.

With that back and forth being said, I’m comfortable with charging it daily or as needed.

Yes, that was all over the place!???

My guiding Principals at home:
  • Charge to 90% overnight only when charge level goes to 20-25% for daily use.
  • Charge to 100% when an extended trip will be taken immediately following the charge session.
  • In the winter months, when charging to 100% use a schedule and pre-conditioning.
  • How often the above events occur is highly variable due to no regular commute requirement.
In general, I pay attention to the miles/kWh value as a matter of standard operation as opposed to how often I need to plug-in. If I need to know the latter, the logs in FP will suffice. If the miles/kWh is less than what I expect for the conditions at hand, I'll consider my driving habits and other impacting variables.

Every day to 90%, sometimes twice in a day at home if I've had a long drive and need a top-up.

So would you say your charging schedule is fairly unstructured?

5 or 6 times a week, at home half the time but high mileage runs mean the inevitable remaining charges on the road.

I charge almost daily at work with the L1 mobile charger since my commute is short and it's free. I rarely ever need to charge with my L2 at home. My charge limit is set to 85%.

We charge once a week to 90% on Sunday night. If going on a trip we'll charge to 100%. Schedule will change if there is a storm in the forecast We'll charge to 100%.

I love reading these threads. 30 responses, 47 opinions.

70%
80%
42.3% on Saturdays.

Rarely "what the manufacturer said". Of course, should anything go wrong in the future, 75% of those that don't do what the manufacturer said would never admit it. ?

As to phones, my phone is designed to slow charge, at night, and be at 100% when the alarm goes off. I charge each night to 100% for that reason.

My wife charges every few days. Every now and then when we're headed out, she looks at her phone and sees 11% and grimaces...

I have daily schedule set to charge between midnight and 8:00 a.m., my off peak times. I have the car set to 90% maximum, and I try to plug it in every time I park it. I forgot a few times but for the most part I just let it recharge 90% overnight. The exception is once a month if I haven't taken a trip and you used 100% I will charge it to 100%. I think every so often you should top it up and so around the first of the month, and that first weekend of the month, I have taken to charge to 100%. After that it's back to plugging in when I park it and letting the automatic schedule keep it topped up to 90%. I've also found that Ford pass is now working for the departure time so I set that whenever I can, and knowing that it's plugged in it'll precondition and warm up from main power rather than battery. This does make a difference when you have a GT, as I find preconditioning it ensures that I have no jail bars, plus a nice warm seat when I get in.

I will note that I to work from home and don't really have a set departure time. The car can go for a few days without being driven at all. Essentially I have said it, And I forget it.

I work from home so never really “need“ to charge that often, but what if an emergency came up and needed to travel 150-200 miles away? I keep mine pretty much charged between 70-90% all the time. Only goes below that when i on trips. In winter i keep it plugged in all the time, summer, i charge every other day or so as needed.

Usually when it gets below 50%. That’s 1-2 times a week.

I charge when the sun is out and my solar is working up to 90% battery. I live in CA so, basically every day lately. That said, I do charge more than I expected before I got the car
