Never had an issue with DT/AT in several years of owning an EV. They have the lift diagrams for these cars and typically have lift pucks of some type.

That said, I leave the lift diagram over the shift wheel so the tech can't help but see it, and check in with the store manager when I arrive to confirm they have pucks and are familiar with the car - can't be too careful.

Sorry this happened to you. This is a good thread with lots of info about jacking and tire rotation.

I created this post highlighting how I created pucks and and stickers to "hopefully" prevent this from happening, and then I ended up rotating the tires myself anyway :) AOSK has a complete kit including picks and stickers now ready to go.

Can you please get your managers and tech's trained on EV's in general and the Mach-e in particular? I've always gotten my tires at Discount Tire but I am hesitant to take my Mach-e there because of issues like this.

Thank you for the long time support, Kevin - it's greatly appreciated!

I certainly hear where you're coming from and at the end of the day, we want you confident in your decision to business with us. To that end we do our best to keep our people informed with procedures and our stores have best practices in place for servicing EV's.

No instruction should be needed from your end when coming in for service, however If you do have any concerns, I would raise them with the team member you're working with at check-in, so that everyone is on the same page.

I'm sorry to hear your visit did not go the way it should have @drom. I understand how frustrating situations like this are, and apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused. Thank you for taking the time to call this to our attention.

I'm glad to hear a claim is in place, as this is the first step in the process. Once a claim is in flight, it typically takes up to 3 business days to receive a first contact from our claims partner. If you're outside of this window, we can help with an escalation.

I want to assure you that we take these matter seriously and appreciate your patience! Hope you don't mind me sending you a follow up by DM here on the forum.
You guys need to institute a nationwide safety campaign to educate your employees about the dangers of using a rolling floor jack on rough surfaces. A floor jack needs to roll under the car while the car is being lifted, but it can't on a rough surface which is why it slips off the car. In addition to generating a vehicular damage claim, it could also seriously injure an employee if the car fell on them. Which is why it should be addressed proactively.

The store in question appears to be using floor jacks on a rough concrete apron, which was likely the cause of the incident.

As far as I'm concerned, every floor jack at a Discount Tire should have a warning sticker that says "Do NOT Use Jack on ROUGH SURFACES" and all employees should be trained on why that is improper use.

Everytime I run out to walk them through where and how to jack. This last time they had these huge rubber blocks and slipped them into the right places. I ran out not knowing this and saw the car go in the aire so fast I thought there was no pucks. But hey after being in there 12 times in months they get kinda used to seeing me.

Oh, that sucks that they did all that damage. I hope your insurance company can take over, get it fixed and deal with them. Pick a quality shop. You definitely get what you pay for.

I go to America Tires and try the same approach that Scooby24 does. However, the office guys are the buffer between the tire installers. I let them know about the lift points, and give them copy of the lift point diagram. See attached. I then mention that there is a potential to damage the batteries and that is a $30,000 fix. If they are passively listening, that usually gets their attention.
I printed something like that, laminated it at the UPS store, and put it in the glovebox for the same reason.
The next step is to buy the @AOSK jack pads, install their warning stickers, and put them in yourself when you get to the shop. Don't drive with them in. They're not designed for that.

And people shouldn't get worked up that this is an extra step only for Mach-E's. They're needed/used for other cars too. Tesla's, Covette's, etc.

Question for my own future reference: Are the jack points clealy marked? I'm almost certainly going to forget to mention this or monitor them when I go for any kind of service anywhere (tending to assume the professionals are supposed to know what they're doing, and me not being a professional).

(And, the dealer didn't seem to know about "EV" tires, so i'm not entirely sure I want to get tires at the/a dealer either).
It’s pretty obvious, there’s a nice stout rail that goes the length of the body (no not the small battery rail). It likely slipped off the jack.

Marked, but not clearly and in a very awkward position that is often missed. Not a great design choice. Some of us has stickers to show exactly where to lift and pucks to lift safely. It’s perfectly fine if you know what you’re doing, but often the techs have no clue and don’t listen to instructions.

its sucks to see this from happening!

We made this image(the bottom one is borrowed from Ford) as part of the instruction on our Jack Pad product. i think Mach E owners could print this image out and hand it to the tire store or auto shop to prevent cases like this from happening again.

I have only had my tires rotated once by Discount Tire in my Mach-E, and I think the tech knew more about the Mach-E than I did. He was very excited to work on it.
But I will watch them next time.....good techs are luck of the draw I guess.

The labor pool is crap right now. I’m a builder and deal with the pool all the time. It’s in every industry right now. I’ve had great service from DT and will continue to go back. DT services a LOT of vehicles on a day to day basis. They will have issues, it’s unavoidable. The more they service, the more issues. It is what it is. I’m glad to see they are stepping up once again.

I went to my local discount tire to have one tire replaced. I stayed there while they lifted it up, they used a floor jack and I made sure they were at the right jacking point. The annoying thing was when they mounted/dismounted tire on wheel, they manage to put a minor scratch all the way round on the face of the wheel. Talked to the manager, this seems to be a frequent occurrence and they referred me to a local shop to have it fixed.

I'm not terribly impressed with them.
That happened to me once at a local DT store years ago. I spent an hour or two polishing out their deep concentric scratch all along my nice alloy wheel. Dirty equipment pressing against the wheel. Never have gone back.

This is a very important topic and I want to confirm everything. I have purchased the "LIFT HERE" stickers and the Corvette pucks. I placed the stickers between the arrows pointing toward the lift point hole. Is that correct? And many on the forum have placed the corvette pucks permanently, yet these links say do not leave them on permanently. Please confirm I have the right information and placement. Thanx, y'all.
