What is the max charge rate for a Mach-E when connected to a DC Fast charger?

I have a '21 MME AWD SR, I have never seen it go above 75kW when fast charging. Right now I'm plugged into a EA hyperfast charger (upto 350kW) and the max charge rate its went to is 72kW, but it's settled at 62-65kW. Was charging from 21% battery.

Is there something I can do to get it to charge at a higher rate?

Step 1, always use the built in nav to tell the car which DCFC location you are heading to. It may seem warm enough outside, but the ideal battery temp is something like 90 deg F.

Step 2, don’t choose a 350kW station if there are 150kW available. The MachE will not be able to utilize the additional power. I think your SR battery peaks at something like 115kW DCFC. The extended battery is rated for 150kW max.

Lastly, I’ve seen some EA stations that have been derated for one reason or another. Sometimes the screen shows this, and other times the screen shows everything as normal.
In these situations, it would be key to have the MachE indicating to the driver what power level is being requested by the car. You could then call EA and definitely say it’s a station malfunctioning vs the car.

You should see 115kW. 75 means a high state of charge, or a bad charger.

I get 115 up to 20% then 85-90kwh. 80% above about 25-30kwh. My observation

Thanks for advice everyone- I will look into this more.

My charging session kept between 62-67kW till it got to about 55%, then it dropped to ~56kW - and stayed around there till I stopped charging at 72%.

As some have mentioned, try using the nav before you get to a charger so that the battery preconditions; it works. I have a 2022 SR RWD and I've seen it peak to 111kw when my state of charge is less than 15%. When you research the charger curve you'll see that it hits that high early on if you're at a low state of charge. From there it tapers off as your state of charge increases.

^^^ This ^^^.

In translation - if the car knows it is heading to a DC Fast charging station, about 20+ miles out it will begin to prepare its battery to be in optimal "charge-receive" mode. Especially important during the Winter.

And the only way the car will know that it is heading to a DC fast charging point is if its built-in Synch NAV will tell it, meaning if the driver inputs a DC Fast charging point as a destination in the Synch NAV.

Not Car Play, not DC Fast charging apps like EA or Blink... the car will then not recognize that it's going to a DC Fast point and will not begin to prep the HV battery.

Good luck!

With no preconditioning, my Mach-e’s been averaging 96-98 kW on new EA 350kW chargers between 20-80% SoC. I routinely get average speeds of 68-71 on EVgo’s 100kW chargers. Temps have been more reasonable lately, around 40-45F.

Also you may want to take a look at the charging stations app (not the screens that are there). When I go to the charge location near me EA charge station it says "Up to 150KW" on all the chargers but in actuality when I look on the app all of them charge at 50kw with the exception of 1 charger that does 150 (but it's usually offline).

I've noticed as well when it's cold, even if I precondition, I struggle to get more than 60KW from an EA charger. I assume the chargers are cold. It's been at 30 degrees or below here the last two road trips and my max was 70KW but not for long.

Our 2023 Y charges at 220kw DC. We use it for long trips vs the GTPE . Our experiences in Western Pa, OH, WV and IN chargers aren't maintained. The superchargers are plentiful clean and work. Glad we will have access next year so we can use the GTPE for long day trips.

Well, that begs an interesting question. Isn't the vehicles native navigation a "Connected Service"? Meaning if we do not renew it (mine runs I think into July 2024) we won't be able to DCFC as quickly since the battery won't be able to precondition without the Native Navigation System. I was not planning on re-upping it as I usually use one of the Apple Car Play Options for navigation; unless, I'm on a road trip. Hmm?

I've been wondering this as well. Might only subscribe during the winter months if this is the case otherwise it's of not much benefit to me.
