One common example is swimming / hiking / jogging and not wanting to carry the fob, so you hide it somewhere and lock the doors. When you get back you use the keypad to get in.

It's actually very, very awesome.
So you can't take your key with you during any of those activities but you'll be able to take your phone with you to verify or track your car? This sounds like poor planning your swimming you can carry a small pack if you're in the Olympics you got a locker room just not seeing why lock the key in the car. And I mean I've had ford's for yes with the keypad entrance and never had to lock the key in. I plan or take with. Swim I take my Lil waterproof pack

I didn't realize it disabled the fob in the car. That's cool. So we both learned something!

Between that and my carpet adventure, I learned two things today!
Thats awesome same here

I just tried this and it actually disables the key left in the car. I tried with the keypad, the other FOB and FP. Very cool. Thank you for teaching me something. I revised my original post and will walk away in shame with my head down.

Soooo that being said I would assume the OP didn't lock the car either. Because if he did via FP the fob wouldn't have worked.
If left the fob in the car and didn't lock it in Florida which is one of the top car theft states that seems suspicious possible. I mean that alot of big mistakes on a car.

If the FOB is locked in the car by pushing 7/8 9/0, then if a person opens the door, they can drive the vehicle.

I have not tested the following:

Open window.
Leave fob in car and close door.
Lock with keypad.
Reach in car and pull door handle, which will set off alarm.
Pick up inside fob and turn alarm off.
Drive away.

Make sure you don't have a PAAK phone or 2nd fob on you.

I believe the internal fob is 100% active, but the keypad let's you lock it inside.

Leaving a fob, or key in a vehicle, is risky. People do it all the time when jogging, swimming, etc. Thieves know you do this.

Also, neither Ford nor any other auto company will track a car if requested by a person, regardless of police reports, etc. They will cooperate with law enforcement.

I noticed this under the hood previously and kind of assumed all MMEs had it. Now realizing this is probably something the dealer put in there (and charged me for, of course)

Sorry to hear about this and hope you get the car back! As some have noted it can be risky to leave a FOB in the car even with the door locked. My understanding is that car thieves often use a device that can detect FOBs within a certain range. In our area there has been a rash of car thefts virtually all them because of FOBs left in cars and we have heard that thieves may be using such a scanning device to identify these cars.

I don't want to take my cell phone into the swimming pool area at the swim club. I have the phone "hidden" in the Mach E. For a while, the car wouldn't allow itself to lock with the phone in the car, and I would press the lock button on the fob to complete the locking (I know it locks when it doesn't beep back at me, and, more importantly, the outside mirrors fold in). After a while the car seemed to learn that the phone would be in it at this location, and it just locks as it should.
And, yes, at other times I have locked the fob in the car and it hasn't notified me; I have used the app on the phone to get in.

Law enforcement can contact Ford and they can find the car. Yes, a person cannot have Ford do that.

Leaving the fob in the vehicle enabled the theft, and the subsequent deletion of access.
Agree. Car can definately be tracked with the VIN but that access is restricted to certain users so I presume there are protocols that need to occur first. I think a police report and request would be necessary.

Okay, so what exactly should I be telling the deputy? When I talked with him earlier and told him they should be able to contact Ford to get the location of the vehicle he started asking me questions about it, like what kind of system it uses and if there's a number they can call and I'm like ??????

That's up to the police department, not you. Someone in their organization, probably in the auto theft area, should know how to get this done. It isn't just a phone call, they need paperwork. You, the consumer, can't do bupkus unfortunately.

So then this was most likely just this particular deputy (since he wasn't even the one assigned to the case) not knowing this? Otherwise I can't imagine why he would be asking me for this information.

I was able to get a video downloaded from a Facebook Group of the neighborhood I live in showing a male in a hoodie flashing light into a car and then running down the street at around the same time mine was stolen, so this was most likely the guy.

I'm going to forward that to police as soon as I can get back in contact with someone, but other than that it sounds like I'm really just going to have to play the waiting game?

Ford should be able to disable the vehicle via OTA, in my opinion, by VIN number.

Hi OP. Just a tip, this is a public forum and person that stole your car has some knowledge about the technology in this car. Be careful of which details you post here. The enemy can be among us.

with that said. Please let us know details when you can. I’m curious to know how helpful was all the tracking technology on this car.

Welp, as I picked my MME when it came off the truck and didn't pre-order it, they told me the 'StarGard' was already installed and so it 'had to go' with the car. (no ADM, but they tried tacking on Paint finish, door PPF, and StarGard, and so I've paid for lifetime StarGard so I might as well 'activate' it.)

I've put off the 'activation' (I'm sure it's actually the install) for a bit. I think it's time to use the 'feature' I already had to pay for.

Hopefully this would help in this type of situation, and would assist in recovering my MME if it went away.

Damn sorry to hear OP

It’s too late now for recovering the car, but there’s a story of a guy who put an Apple AirTag in his car and got it back when it was stolen. Might be cheap investment, assuming you’re in the Appleverse and not Android. https://appleinsider.com/articles/2...-tracking-device-to-find-their-stolen-vehicle
This might be a problem if the thief has an iPhone - AirTag is designed to discourage unwanted tracking. If someone else’s AirTag finds its way into your stuff, your iPhone will notice it’s traveling with you and send you an alert. After a while, if you still haven’t found it, the AirTag will start playing a sound to let you know it’s there. Of course, if you happen to be with a friend who has an AirTag, or on a train with a whole bunch of people with AirTag, don’t worry. These alerts are triggered only when an AirTag is separated from its owner.
