SSB for mainstream is 10-20 years away. The first implementation will be in halo cars like a C8 hybrid or Porsch hybrid. The cost is high and yields are low. It took ages for battery makers to get high yields on every new chemistry or form factor.
I'm saying 2030.

Want to make it interesting? ?

Huh. Now I'm back to maybe wanting to blow up my HVBJB and holding onto my '21 for a few more years instead of turning it in at the end of my Options contract. ??
My Options contract ends in two years when the redesign was first announced to drop…so now I’m back to waiting to see how much value is left in ā€˜ole Storm in September 2026 and after that if I hold onto her for another year or not…

By 2027 the EV charging network will likely be fully functional. Current extended range will be adequate for almost everyone, including those who do a lot of road trips. Res weight - the current MME is only about 200 pounds heavier than an optimized EV. The next one will be lighter, but more important cheaper to manufacture.

Agreed, but convincing non-EV owners of that will be a challenge.
I own two EVs and no ICE cars and I'm not convinced. I actually want minimum of 450 miles on my next one. Range drops fast when you need it - freeway speeds with four people, luggage and gear. Add a roof top carrier, and it drops more. Then consider trips that are mostly uphill (one direction) or windy days. 300 miles of actual range would be a good start. 300 top range in ideal circumstances, is not sufficient.

And, no, renting a car for road trips is not a viable answer. I don't buy nice cars I'm comfortable in and have features I like just to rent a piece of crap, abused, base trim for the days I spend the most time driving.

Range drop is important. I think usable range of 300 is really all that is needed (maybe that's 400+ on the GOM or the window sticker). The fact that vehicles have a range of 500-600 or whatever miles is not relevant to how we should be driving (taking a break, avoiding drowsiness especially with ADAS systems like Blue Cruise, etc.) 300 usable miles means taking a break every 4 hours. Sounds good to me. Over the next 5 years, the DCFC charging should improve significantly.

Last year we rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a road trip to the Colorado Plateau where charging is virtually non-existent once you're off of I-15. It was a well build, quiet and handled just fine (for an ICE). So no you needn't go bargain basement hunting when renting an ICE for a road trip where the DCFC infrastructure doesn't exist.

There’s some compromises of the MME that I’m not sure I can overlook with its eventual replacement. The MME’s lack of an elegant hitch receiver option and no roof rails makes it a lousy bike & ski machine. The low ground clearance means the regular MME is ill-suited to rutted dirt roads to access trailheads.

The GT needs about 50-60 miles of additional freeway range and we all need charging times that are half what they are now.

I definitely would have a hard time giving up 0-60 times on my next EV that are slower than my GT.

In case you don’t like clicking links to see the story. Here’s the important part.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Redesign On Track For 2027 Debut: Report

This report comes to us from Automotive News, which notes that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is now slated to undergo a comprehensive makeover in 2027 – one that includes not only a redesign in terms of exterior styling and features, but also, the addition of a new platform as well. The same report claims that the Mach-E lineup will continue to expand to include new ā€œderivatives and special editions,ā€ though it will continue to be built at the Cuautitlan Assembly plant in Mexico.
Is there reason to believe this report is reliable? Was the report sourced from Ford in some way?

I do not subscribe to Automotive News, so I could not see what it said about the "report".

Dear Ford take a wee bit more time tuning the suspension (magnaride on all trims?) and try and shed some weight.

Oh and for the love of all that is holy, fix the GD software. It (will be) 2027, the software should be zippy and smooth. And climate control should be physical buttons.

Oh and V2x please. Um, okay I think I'm done now ?
100% agree with suspension needs work.

On software, our MME is much more user friendly than my husband's Porsche Panamera. We literally have to reconnect every time we get in his car. My phone never disconnects from the MME. I am happy with the MME technology ?

I use Android Auto and it freezes up almost daily. This forces me to disconnect and then reconnect my phone. Not sure if Google is to blame or Ford or both. Luckily connectivity is not an issue with the car but it is still annoying to have the touch screen freeze up while driving.
