Has anyone else had the issue where PAAK was working reasonably well, then got the update and now doesn’t work at all?

cause that happened to me today. Working pretty good then said it updates and today boom, key not detected. Taking mine in Monday.
Not good. I'm taking my car in tomorrow morning.

Just pick up from the dealer with the update. One new observation is that now I get a notification that my car is locked with the PAAK walk away feature.
tell us more please. How long did it take? Did you have to take your phone and do anything with the app too?

It's disconcerting to me from a security standpoint that all someone needs is your Ford account to get into the car and setup PAAK. Where's the 2FA?

They can't: They need physical access to the car and the keyfob to setup PAAK.

You need the key fob as well to set PaaK. That said, your car would be long gone at point.

I set it up yesterday without the fob. It only prompted for the fob to create a backup start password. That was after deleting my old key and then creating a new one.

I dropped of my car this morning and told them it has a recall. ( You need to drop off the key fob for any service).

Got a call back at around 4:00pm.
On the receipt it stated:

reprogram RFA Module RESET Good.

After pick up, there is no need for reprogramming. PAAK still remember my phone. I try walking away and back to the car 3 times. No problem.

The only change I noticed is when I walk away I get a new notification from Ford Pass.
“ Your vehicle has been locked using the Walk Away Lock feature.”

This is going to suck if every time this thing needs a firmware update I need to schedule a service appointment.

Since you already activated the car and tied the VIN to your account you were able to bypass the activation step. That part requires you to be inside the car with the key fob and the car on the first time. Since you only need to do this part once it's easy to forget you did it. Essentially the key fob is your (one time) 2nd Factor.

So since the car is already tied to the account, the key fob is no longer needed for someone to create a PAAK with my credentials. If that's the case, there's no longer any second factor.

This is not accurate. An existing key, trusted by your vehicle, is needed to make the new one, even with PaaK.

I did it without an existing PAAK or the FOB
