Guys, read the forums or even the previous responses. You should not need to pay much for your FOBs and they will program without issues. I would avoid trying to get anything free from a dealership because, well, they're dealerships and operate by making money. There are links and comments of people confirming what works as well as the posted instructions to program a third.

I recommend buying a third FOB, cheap version, and just having it to keep the ability to program a new one yourself if you lose/break one of the two main ones. $30 FOB saves you a dealership or locksmith visit.
You must be one of those newfangled people that got two fobs with your car. Most of us got only the one, so we cannot program it ourselves. Ford could do the right thing and retroactively apply the second fob to the rest of us, but that would cost them too much money (because a dealer would have to program it) so they're not interested so far.

Actually, I wasn't. I bought two extra fobs from two different places and both were able to be programmed. I'm just saying that dealerships should not be charging that much and that you don't have to buy through them and believe their lies about how theirs work and others don't. My third fob was programmed by me, using the programming procedure.

Programming a third fob did not work for me. It ended with an error message. After two tries it reported that the key fob memory was full (4 fobs maximum). So it got an error and left whatever it had put in the memory.

I was corresponding with a dealer about X-plan, which they honor, and asked about the possibility of getting a second programmed FOB at no cost, since others have mentioned getting them from their dealers. He said something I hadn't heard before--that under X-plan rules dealers are not allowed to provide gifts or other things free of charge. Interesting.

I had X-plan pricing and my dealer gave me free dealership branded license plate holders.

Not sure if that is really a freebie--sounds more like free advertising for them :).

Hi All,

Since prices have skyrocketed for the FOB I wanted to post this here.

In my googling I came across the site yourcarkeyguys.com . They have used FOBS for 50+3 for the safety key insert. YMMV but this morning PayPal sent me an email stating I would get 25$ off my purchase on that site. So all said and done I got a used key for 28$. Note: the discount doesn't show on the site it will be shown on your PP receipt. Hyperlink below shows safety key and FOB.

USED FOB'S

Cheers

I bought one of those and the car failed to program it giving a generic error. I already had two fobs and was trying to program a third fob. The programming failed but it left something in the car's key memory. After two tries the key memory was full and I could not make any more attempts.
My only option now is to go to a dealer since their procedure erases the key memory as the first step in programming.

On a side note you can have 4 fobs and 4 PAAK keys.

I agree with you and I can only speak from my own experience in this case. I personally bought the model that appears to work for 57 Ford models and it worked fine. Fullerton Ford (NJ) charges $75 to program it in case there are any NJ folks looking for a second one.
I got one from carandtruckremotes.com, the 2020 gas Mustang version and had it programmed at the dealer because none of the local locksmiths had the updated software.

The dealer (Family Ford in Netcong NJ) charged me $137 but Fullerton is 45 mins each way and I decided to just pay the freight. They're not very friendly and I don't recommended them, the tech didn't seem to like the idea of electric cars but I got a fob and it works fine, even the power hatch.

I‘m considering getting a third key (I have a GT-PE on order, which should come with two keys). The 2021 Escape key is 315MHz just like the MME key and has a hatch icon for the trunk button, but it comes with a Ford logo instead of a Mustang logo. I probably won’t order the key for another few weeks since my MME won’t be here until mid to late November, December if there are delays in transit.

EDIT: This thread prompted me to go digging through a huge box of keys we have for various things because I need to find my Fusion’s second key. I found my dad’s last set of car keys. He had his WWII dog tag on the key ring. I just threw the tag onto the freezer door.

Hey Steve: Curious where you got the info on the GT-PE coming with 2 FOBS? I just ordered mine (same trim/options) and went through the Order Guide (9/29/21) for the '22 MME.

It states that only one FOB comes with the '22. The full details start with the "Select" Edition and then additional std equipment is shown under each model. I didn't see anything indicating that other trims (incl GT) come with 2 FOBs.

See attached screenshot. I sure hope this changed. It's ridiculous to not include a $30 key (their cost) on a $60k+ car... I just don't buy the argument of PaaK justifying this.

<snip>
First there was rumor, then an SSM. Empirically, every GT I have seen reported delivered seems to have 2 keys. The other trims reported as delivered recently also sent to have 2 keys.

We just took delivery yesterday . I asked everyone i spoke with about a second key.(about 4) Each employee said “just use your phone”
but the packet had a key fob and the salesman had a key fob, so both wife and i are happy.
And there is no excuse for a $60,000 vehicle to only come with one key in my opinion. Paak or not…..
