IRR windshield doesn't block radar though, does it? Maybe LIDAR if Laser is being used, but didn't think it should affect radar. Unless all the Ka band I've picked up has been from bouncing around in the car and hitting from rear.

I don't have one that tells me which direction the hit is from, and I have all bands turned off except for Ka. Might need to turn them back on and go by a speed sign nearby to test the performance from front.
I can say in my experiences so far, it certainly blocks most of the radar coming in. I used to get 1-2 mile range, now I would get about 50ft of range if it's not in the black box.

Anyone want to lend me a radar gun to check? ?

I called Escort and asked them and they said that IRR windshields will degrade the signal and that the detector has to be placed in a blocked out area of the windshield based on mfg specs.

When I told them it's almost impossible to do that, they replied, "well then replace the window" ?‍♂

In California I could care less about LIDAR. Although we have it, the officers who are using it are stationary and with Waze and 1/2 of a brain you can figure out where they are. Radar on the other hand is what the CHP use while driving. These are never on Waze (because they are moving), many times hiding behind other cars or sneaking up behind you. In CA, Sheriffs don't have any speed detection technology (other than pacing) and city police are normally too busy helping people steal as long as it's under $950.

Ha! That was helpful of them.
I was just reading up on it, and yeah as they confirmed for you it does have an impact - wow. Great to know. Mine is mounted super close to the dots (I know the suctions cups are there for sure), I'll have to go back and check again. Maybe I'm right on the edge, or maybe that's why things have been so quiet lately.......

I have not had any issues with GPS or radar/laser detection in its current position.

I have been watching Vortex Radar on you tube for a while. I was waiting for some new things from Redenso so I emailed them. They told me NO radar detector will work through an IRR windshield. I also have 3 V1 gen 1 detectors in my vehicles and they go "crazy" in the Mach E, maybe because of all the electronics. So I've been relying on Waze alerts for now but that really needs a good number of wazers reporting to be helpful.

Yes, it blocks radar almost completely. Radar is a lower frequency in the electromagnetic spectrum than infrared, so if something blocks infrared it will also block radar typically.

IR LIDAR may or may not be blocked depending on the frequency and where the band cutoff is for the windshield.

Test your install carefully.

On the v1 gen1 I’ve toggled the settings to turn off laser (kind of too little too late anyway on the freeway) and k (I think k, the least important one), and all the crazy signals are gone. Mme def creates false ongoing intermittent laser signals. Placed in the black dot area, working like a champ. I commute 120 miles RT daily, mostly freeway.

Interesting, it's probably the IR emitters from the driver monitoring camera behind the steering wheel setting off the laser alerts.

I ended up cutting up a mount using some vhb tape and it appears to be holding well and very minimalistic. I'll see if I get good radar signals next time I have a cop coming at me.

Great to know, ty! I've been using the same RD for almost 10 years, and haven't paid much attention to this world lately. IRR Windshields are a new to me. First with the EZ Pass, and now this. What a twist!

Testing with a speed-sign approx 200m away, direct line of site.

There is another speed-sign on my Monday route. I’ll pull over and take a separate measurement. Been seeing Ka consistently by CHP lately, not sure I want to pull over for that photo-op.

The mount "creation" that I did in my previous post is holding strong. I can't believe how well that tape sticks... I also bent up the radar "anti-bounce" tab and put it under the headliner. It appears to be getting good signals just like before. I think rear radar is a little worse with it mounted up top, but I would rather oncoming over rear.

Now the hard part is that I mounted it using an old radar detector. The newer one, a Redline 360c is magnetic and I need to find a way to chop up the factory mount to get it up there. I think that's Monday/Tuesday's project so I'll take some pictures once I come up with something.
