I was hesitant to do the glass recall work for the windshield and the panoramic sun roof because neither my windshield or roof was causing any issues for me. And there was the chance of something happening -- like the horror stories on this forum about scratched glass, torn upholstery, etc -- during the recall work. However, the tire rotation (10k mile service) was due, OTA 1.7..1 was stuck for me, and the customer satisfaction program software update was available, so I made the service appointment with the Ford dealership -- Fairview Ford -- from whom I bought the car.

Turned my Mach-E in on Monday and got a rental. Fairview outsourced the recall glass work to a 3rd-party glass specialist. Picked up the car on Thursday afternoon and everything seemed OK. The update was reportedly done, the stuck OTA could not be addressed till March as expected, and the windshield and roof appeared to be normal. However, when putting stuff back into my car in my garage, I noticed loud clicking noises when opening and closing the driver's door that was definitely not there before.

Looking at where the sound came from, I saw a weird gap in trim next to the dashboard on the driver side. In fact, that piece of trim was obviously not fastened in place like its counterpart on the passenger side. (See attached photo) I'm thinking that in either taking the headliner down for the panoramic roof or getting to the windshield involved manipulating that cowl trim, which was damaged in the process.

I sourced the affected part as KICK PANEL TRIM (LJ8Z5802345AA) with CLIPS (W716053S439 and W717758S437M) for MSRP $37.00. So not expensive for parts, but replacing it might get hairy if I have to get past the dash. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the handiest person around either....then again, why should I be the one trying to do the repair work?

As the damage was done with my vehicle formally in their possession as part of a Ford recall, I'm thinking that that Fairview Ford needs to fix this.

I'd appreciate any input or thoughts you might have on this situation...

I agree with you that the dealer needs to fix this. Did you bring this up to them?

You might be able to pop it back in yourself. First run your finger under the lip of the door seal all the way to the bottom so it sits on top of the trim piece evenly. Then try just pushing it back in until the clips pop in. Holding the door seal back with one hand may help. If you can’t get it then bring it back, maybe the clips are broken.

Of course they are responsible… probably just a matter of clipping it back in or replacing a clip.

Don't know why this warranted a post. Of course they'll fix it.

If that’s the only issue I would celebrate and recommend them to others….there is a lot more that could have gone wrong with the recall fix.

That should be an easy fix for the dealer to take care of. Did you have any issues resulting from the Software upgrade? I think this is the one that provides faster dc charging beyond 80%.

Thanks, I tried what you suggested, but no joy -- clips are either broken or missing -- as the part just hangs loose at the top.

I largely agree with you...don't know why either!?
But I figured the community might respond or react with an idea or suggestion I hadn't thought of, or advice that could be fruitful.
Also wanted to provide an additional data point for people about to do the recall.

As others have said, of course your dealer needs to fix it. Are they refusing to?
No, I'm sitting here at Fairview waiting for them to assess the clicking sound. A couple hours wait.

Haven't seen anything yet. Noticed that Sync version is "--" but that's likely from the unresolved OTA 1.7.1 remaining stuck.

This is a reasonable question and I agree with the other posters. Give it a quick try at reseating, then back to the dealer.

Have to give credit where credit is due -- Fairview fixed the trim in about an hour and ordered door parts to address the clicking noise. Should take about a week for the parts to arrive. Fingers crossed.?

After leaving the dealership today, something else was brought to my attention that I'm 99% sure wasn't there before the windshield recall was done: the right (passenger side) wiper appears to be permanently tilted up -- see attached photo -- whenever the car is switched on, even with the wipers are set to OFF. My guess is that after the windshield work, the wiper position requires recalibration.

If it's not too much trouble, can someone out there take a quick look at their Mach-E and confirm that my wiper position is indeed off-kilter...?

Thanks

OP,

I appreciate you for posting this. It's hard to know exactly everywhere one should look when trying to find any damages or issues after the recall work. I checked all around the headliner of mine when I first got it back and all seemed to be in order.

Just looked at my driver's side trim and I have this exact same trim gap as yours. And I mean EXACT! A side by side photo of yours and mine would practically be indistinguishable. Probably would have never noticed it!

As for the windshield wiper, I can confirm mine is not as high up position as yours in that photo. I cannot see mine when they are off (or on and waiting for the pass over)

Edit: I actually see this trim gap on BOTH the driver and passengers side.

Thanks for confirming the wiper out of position. Hope it's a quick fix next week... I've had too many trips to the dealer.

Truth be told, I probably wouldn't have been as concerned about the trim if the clicking noise wasn't a such an issue for me (in particular -- I'm somehow sensitive to errant noise) and the knowledge that it was iatrogenic...

The wipers retract below after a few seconds of off. So clearly out of kilter. Can you twist it in shape. It may just be cockeyed.

Thank you -- that's what I thought I remember.
They don't retract anymore. Oh, I can manually push them back down when the car is off, but when I turn the vehicle on, both wipers actuate, with the passenger-side moving into the same weird position. And this is with the wiper stem still in the off position.
